After the first episodes aired, several Belgian artists and comedians that performed in the real "Oud Belgie" theater, including Gaston Berghmans, Will Ferdy, and Jacky Lafon, said in interviews that things were never as bad as depicted in the series prior to the real theater's closing. In response, Peter Van den Begin, one of the authors and main characters of the series said that the series is not a documentary on the last days of the "Oud Belgie" theater but rather a fictional story about the lives and the day-to-day problems of the people working in a vaudeville theater in the late 70's, loosely based on his childhood memories of the real "Oud Belgie" theater.
