Dwayne Johnson to Star in ‘Jungle Cruise’ Movie for Disney

Dwayne Johnson to Star in ‘Jungle Cruise’ Movie for Disney
Disney is moving forward with an untitled film revolving around its “Jungle Cruise” theme park attraction with Dwayne Johnson attached to star.

Crazy Stupid Love” helmers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are on board to pen the script. John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment will produce. Kristin Burr is overseeing for Disney.

The studio has been trying to develop a film based around the safari ride for sometime, with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen each attached to star at some point. Plot details are unknown at this time, other than the fact that it will be a period piece.

Following the success of “The Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, Disney has pushed hard to find ways to use their various brand name theme park attractions for feature film ideas. A “Haunted Mansion” pic is currently in development with Ryan Gosling attached to star.

Amazon’s 2015 Theatrical Movies Won’t Come from Its Current Film Slate

Amazon’s 2015 Theatrical Movies Won’t Come from Its Current Film Slate
Amazon Studios currently lists 14 movie projects in development, which it has procured through its over-the-transom script-submission process. But the company said those won’t be among the titles it releases as part of its new initiative for theatrical-first distribution.

On Monday Amazon announced that it would produce or acquire up to 12 movies per year, to be released in theaters four to eight weeks before becoming available on Prime Instant Video.

The company has hired producer Ted Hope to run the group and expects budgets to be in the range of $5 million-$25 million. It hasn’t specified genres it’s pursuing at this point except to say the movies “will focus on unique stories, voices and characters from top and up-and-coming creators.”

The new titles are anticipated as coming through a traditional studio development process, not via Amazon Studios’ script-submission program. In a statement, Amazon Studios VP Roy Price said, “We still have an open door for TV and movie scripts at Studios.amazon.com. We are very happy to have that source of ideas. As in TV, though, we do not expect that most of the movies in the Amazon Original Movies program will come from that source.”

Price added, “We are still developing some movies as part of that program that would not fit into the Amazon Original Movies program announced today.”

Films listed on Amazon’s slate include “Touching Blue,” a thriller from producer Denise Di Novi (“Crazy, Stupid, Love,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas”), about a teenage girl with psychic powers who must stop a mysterious killer.

Ryan Gosling & Emma Stone Out, Ben Affleck In For 'Focus'

Ryan Gosling & Emma Stone Out, Ben Affleck In For 'Focus'
Sorry guys and gals, a third reteam for Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone following "Crazy Stupid Love" and the upcoming "Gangster Squad" isn't in the cards. But Ben Affleck? That's a pretty nice consolation prize. The actor/director (or is director/actor now?) is early talks to take on the lead role in the movie, if the right female lead can be found. The script, penned by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (who will also direct), tells the story of a veteran conman who becomes romantically involved with a newcomer, and finds the relationship challenged by their illegal activities. And when they meet again down the line, the complications have long-lasting effects. Warner Bros. are keen on the movie, and want it in production soon, but how soon is the question, as the studio will probably also want Affleck on the press trail for the Oscar-contending "Argo." At any rate,

Ben Affleck to campaign as 'Nathan Decker'

Ben Affleck to campaign as 'Nathan Decker'
Ben Affleck is attached to star as a disgraced politician who heads home to rebuild his life in the Warner Bros. comedy Nathan Decker, EW has confirmed. Dan Fogelman, who wrote last summer’s Crazy Stupid Love, penned the script, which recently had been envisioned as a vehicle for Tom Cruise.

Affleck, who played a shady pol in State of Play (2009) — also an active supporter of Democratic causes — is not considering directing Decker. (In his last two starring roles, The Town and the upcoming Argo, Affleck directed himself.) The Hollywood Reporter initially reported this news.

Weekend Report: It's a Draw Between 'Cowboys' & 'Smurfs'

Weekend Report: It's a Draw Between 'Cowboys' & 'Smurfs'
At an estimated $36.2 million apiece, Cowboys & Aliens and The Smurfs were neck-and-neck for the top spot this weekend, flouting pre-weekend tracking that indicated Cowboys would easily rope in more. Captain America: The First Avenger retreated to third, the final Harry Potter hit another milestone, and Crazy, Stupid, Love. rounded out the Top Five in its debut. Smurfs led on Friday with an estimated $13.40 million opening versus Cowboys' $12.99 million, but Cowboys pulled ahead on Saturday, $13.07 million to $12.70 million. Cowboys' distributor Universal Pictures projected $10.14 million on Sunday, while Smurfs' distributor Sony Picture projected $10.10 million, leading to both movies garnering $36.2 million estimates. For what it's worth, Universal reported its Cowboys estimate before Sony issued its Smurfs estimate, and, even if Smurfs ends up in second, it's likely to gross more in the long run, given the historical patterns of the movies' genres. Down 62 percent, Captain America: The First Avenger took a steep hit,

'Crazy Stupid Love': Needs More Crazy, Less Stupid, Much Less Gooey

'Crazy Stupid Love': Needs More Crazy, Less Stupid, Much Less Gooey
Any movie that features the line, “The bags under your eyes are starting to look like Hugh Hefner’s ballsac” in the first 30 minutes promises to be a subversive, potty-mouthed romp. Unfortunately, “Crazy Stupid Love” veers schizophrenically between daring, jaw-dropping comedy and gooey sitcom clichés that weigh it down like Hef’s saggy old … well, you know. The Hefner line is uttered by Ryan Gosling as Jacob, a cool womanizer who becomes the lady-hunting mentor of dumped, dorky Cal Weaver (Steve Carrell), after Cal’s wife Emily (Julianne Moore) cheats on him

Steve Carell Vehicle Finds Directors

Everyone.s favorite man-o-lantern Steve Carell is one of the busiest comedians in Hollywood. Not only is he the star of the disgustingly popular NBC series The Office, but he has three films in post-production and another ten or so in development lined up for the next year. The man is a well-oiled comedy machine who.s at the top and still climbing. THR announced today that one of those many projects in development may soon have a directing tag team in the form of Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. The pair has worked together their entire career mostly at the pen, but recently directing their own script for I Love You, Phillip Morris. Their writing credits include Bad Santa, and that lovable talking animals film Cats and Dogs. Requa also wrote eight episodes of the late 90.s cartoon Angry Beavers which is where I gain confidence for the Carell

Requa & Ficarra to helm Carell comedy

Directing team Glenn Ficarra and John Requa have scored the job of directing what just might become Steve Carell's next film project. The untitled script, which Warners bought from Bolt writer Dan Fogelman, features a father whose life is thrown into chaos as he tries to manage his relationship with his kids even as his marriage falls apart. Sounds high-lar-ious! It's currently battling it out for Carell's precious spring hiatus, when he gets some spare time away from The Office to shoot films. The script is up against Mail Order Groom, which boasts a possible reunion with Date Night co-star Tina Fey.Ficarra and Requa's last movie, gay crime romance comedy I Love You, Phillip Morris starring Ewan McGregor and Jim Carrey, stirred up some buzz at various festivals but it's been stuck in release limbo for ages, and will finally see the projectionist's light in March.

John Requa and Glenn Ficarra To Direct Steve Carell Comedy

Not too long ago, word came that Dan Fogleman had sold a spec script to Warners and it was now being set up as a Steve Carell vehicle. The premise, Russ reported, was simple enough: Carell would be “a father whose life unravels while he deals with a marital crisis and tries to manage his relationship with his children.” Variety's report is a bit fuzzy but it seems I Love You Phillip Morris directing duo John Requa and Glenn Ficarra have come on to realise the screenplay, or at least something that will grow out of it. I'm glad that Requa and Ficarra have been repeatedly redeemed from their early job writing Cats and Dogs (and by extension offering a hope of future redemption to Cats and Dogs 2 director, Canuck short films hotshot Brad Peyton).
