Sex & Nudity

  • Lady Macbeth's dresses are often very low-cut. No actual sexual material is shown.
  • During "Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble", the witches once bound over the corpses in a somewhat suggestive manner.
  • During the Porter scene (Act II iii), the porter unzips his pants and urinates in a sink; although his back is to us, we get a glimpse of skin when he adjusts himself. Having done so, however, he does not remove his hand, and, though the camera does not focus on his crotch, the viewer can see that he is rubbing himself while he simultaneously makes gyrating movements with his body. This is in connection with his speech about drink and lechery. While not necessary an "R" rated scene, It is graphic enough that I would not show it to my high school class.

Violence & Gore

  • Blood is used liberally with wounded characters and the battlefield corpses used by the witches in their scenes.
  • One man is shot at close range with a pistol.
  • We see the torture of a character. (Intimidation, and breaking his nose.)

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • One minor character is often seen smoking.
  • Much alcohol is consumed by various characters, and at least two times, it is clear that the characters are drunk.
