Star Wars: You'll Love Bb-8 Even More After Finding Out Who Voices Him

29 December 2015 5:30 PM, PST | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

As anyone who has seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens can attest to, Bb-8 is adorable. Here's the droid, in all of his cute, metallic glory. Look at him go! Image Source: Disney What you may not know about the lil' guy is that he's voiced by a couple of guys you might be familiar with. Bill Hader, the actor you love from Saturday Night Live and Trainwreck, is named as "Bb-8 Vocal Consultant" in the credits. Image Source: Getty / Don Arnold So what exactly does that mean? Hader confessed to HitFix that it's not quite as technological as you might think. Here's what his job consisted of: "J.J. [Abrams] f*cking around with this sound-effects app on his iPad that was attached to a talk box operated by me. It looked ridiculous but it made Bb-8's voice. At first I tried doing a voice, but we all agreed it sounded too human. »

Gugu Mbatha-Raw Joins Star Wars: Episode VIII

8 October 2015 1:48 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

A month or so ago, the news came in that Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany was in the running for a key role in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Now, just as we hear that Maslany has been cast in the upcoming Boston bombing drama Stronger, likely putting her out of the Star Wars running, comes the story that Gugu Mbatha-Raw is strongly rumoured for an Episode VIII role. Coincidence?Whether this is actually the same role that was previously in contention between Maslany, Gina Rodriguez and Olivia Cooke is, of course, unclear, since we don't actually know what any of Episode VIII's roles are yet. The film has already reportedly cast its "female lead" in Daisy Ridley, but that doesn't mean there aren't other female leads or secondary roles up for grabs. Oxford-born actress Mbatha-Raw's first major gig was as Martha Jones' sister Tish during the David Tennant era of Doctor Who. »

'Parks and Recreation': Ben Schwartz's memories of Jean-Ralphio

20 February 2015 6:00 AM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

With “Parks and Recreation” only a few days away from ending, we’ve been running a lot of stories about the show’s history, including Jim O’Heir recalling the strange life of Garry Gergich, and Mike Schur explaining the show’s weird recurring characters and running gags . One of those weirdoes was Jean-Ralphio Saperstein, Tom Haverford’s best friend and a monstrous human being. Earlier this week, I emailed actor Ben Schwartz a few questions about how he got the part, the origin of Jean-Ralphio’s hair, love of singing, and more. The “Parks” series finale airs Tuesday night at 10 on NBC. Before then, I have one more big interview to publish, plus a look back at what made this one of TV’s best comedies. Mike said that Jean-Ralphio was born out of you spending an hour in his office and making him realize you were funny enough »

19 February 2015 2:42 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Alfre Woodard threw her first Oscar’s Sistahs Soiree six years ago, when she had grown tired of everyone assuming actresses of color were in competition with each other. “Every time we hear each others’ names, it felt like it was one of our reps going, ‘If that b–tch turns it down, then you can have it!’” Woodard revealed at a cocktail gathering before the dinner. “I was like, wait a minute. When I hear my sisters’ names, I want to have a joyful feeling in my heart about it.”

There was nothing but joy evident in the cocktail party at the Beverly Wilshire held before the 28 invited guests headed into a private dinner. The room was loud with laughter and cheers as Woodard tried to find an area where she could talk. “You see how loud it gets!” she said with a laugh. “It’s always like this, »
