The Batman To Be Noir Driven, Show Detective Side Of The Caped Crusader

27 June 2017 1:27 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Batman has had a lot of great movies. Between the cheesy 1966 Adam West-starring Batman, all the way to the conclusion of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy, we have seen numerous effective interpretations of the Caped Crusader. But if there’s one side we’ve seen much too little of, it’s the world’s greatest detective side.

We did see glimpses of it in The Dark Knight, such as when Batman re-assembled the shattered bullet to help pull a fingerprint, but that film seemed to play out more like a thriller than a mystery, since we already knew a lot of the things Batman didn’t. With Matt ReevesThe Batman, it sounds like we’ll be getting a more standard, noir-ish detective story — one that focuses very heavily on Batman’s perspective.

Speaking with New Trailer Buzz, Reeves said:

“What I try to do, in an almost Hitchcockian sense, »

Cannes Winning Best Actor and Lanthimos' Quirky 'Family' Thriller Academy Award Chances?

'120 Beats per Minute' trailer: Robin Campillo's AIDS movie features plenty of drama and a clear sociopolitical message. AIDS drama makes Pedro Almodóvar cry – but will Academy members tear up? (See previous post re: Cannes-Oscar connection.) In case France submits it to the 2018 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, screenwriter-director Robin Campillo's AIDS drama 120 Beats per Minute / 120 battements par minute, about the Paris Act Up chapter in the early 1990s, could quite possibly land a nomination. The Grand Prix (Cannes' second prize), international film critics' Fipresci prize, and Queer Palm winner offers a couple of key ingredients that, despite its gay sex scenes, should please a not insignificant segment of the Academy membership: emotionalism and a clear sociopolitical message. When discussing the film after the presentation of the Palme d'Or, Pedro Almodóvar (and, reportedly, jury member Jessica Chastain) broke into tears. Some believed, in fact, that 120 Beats per Minute »

Sydney 2017: Una review: Dir. Benedict Andrews

Una review: Rooney Mara and Ben Mendelsohn give an acting masterclass in Benedict Andrews’ harrowing drama about a twenty-something British girl who confronts her abuser.

Una review by Paul Heath, October 2016.

Based on the play Blackbird by David Harrower, Una unites Rooney Mara and Ben Mendelsohn for this British drama directed by Benedict Andrews who makes his feature film directing debut.

Adapted by Harrower himself, Una sees Mara play the title character, a tortured individual who we find having random sex in a nightclub and then walking home barefoot as day breaks back to her childhood home where she still lives with her mother. Andrews skillfully uses suggestion in the couple of scenes prior to give the viewer the impression that she was abused at a younger age – vivid images of a young teenager visiting an older man’s house. The story unravels slowly to reveal that a thirteen-year-old Una »

Thor 3 Animated Parody Gives Ragnarok the Perfect Theme Song

3 June 2017 10:07 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Marvel's upcoming Thor: Ragnarok gets an animated make-over in a new trailer that parodies Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song." The movie, which comes out in November of this year, will be the third installment of the Thor franchise, and the recent trailer looks fantastic. It is put over the top by the use of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song." The song's original lyrics include the line "hammer of the gods," which just seems too perfect for use in a Thor movie. But now those words have been taken out and replaced with a kind-hearted spoof on Thor: Ragnarok.

The animated trailer comes courtesy of Aok's YouTube page and the animation is really well done. The animated video runs much like a literal trailer with lyrics reciting what's literally going on during the trailer. Whoever wrote the words is clearly no "Weird Al" Yankovic, but they get the job done. Some »
