An ex-cop turned con threatens to jump to his death from a Manhattan hotel rooftop. The nearest New York Police officer immediately responds to a screaming woman and calls dispatch. More Officers arrive with SWAT and tactical command along with fire-fighters. The police then dispatches a female police psychologist personally requested to talk him down from the ledge. A man checks into a hotel and then goes out onto the ledge. People then start gathering below to see what he will do. The police are called in. The man says he will only talk to Detective Lydia Mercer, a police negotiator. Mercer's last negotiation didn't end well. When she arrives the man refuses to come in. They eventually learn he's a cop who was convicted of stealing a valuable diamond, which he denies. It seems he just escaped from prison and he says he's trying to prove his innocence. Ex-cop, Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington) was accused of stealing a precious diamond two years ago. Now that he has escaped from confinement, he finally has the chance to prove that he is innocent. To accomplish this, he stalls for time as he stands on a New York city building ledge, convincing everyone that he is about to commit suicide. Next door, his brother, Joey Cassidy ('Jamie Bell' ) and his brother's girlfriend, Angie, ('Genesis Rodriguez' ) are attempting to steal the diamond that Nick was framed for stealing in the first place.
