Paul Mooney delivers again
carboiii17 April 2010
I read the review of the previous poster, please lighten up! Paul Mooney is hilarious. I saw him first on the now canceled, Dave Chapelle show on a segment called, "Ask a Black Dude." I was laughing constantly. He doesn't just poke fun at "white people" as the other reviewer says, he also lampoons his own race and has gotten heat for doing that in another stand up before this. He talks about everything from Whitney Houston on coke to Obama being elected. It takes place in a famous strip club in Dallas called "The Lodge," so there is nudity every now and then. If offensive language bothers you and nudity, then you might not want to watch, if you're immune to that and mature, you may just have a good laugh.

This really IS the end of the world...

Warning: Spoilers
If you've come to this page then it means you have heard of him already; so then you know what to expect, don't you?

For me, this is Mooney's finest performance to date: brutal, sharp, fluid and eclectic. I particularly liked his come-back with the heckler in the audience "Of course, she's naked. What are you, some kind of a f**king outpatient?".

There was a feeling that I couldn't shake-off though: it felt almost apocalyptic, that Mooney was in some serious depression. I felt kind of sorry for him towards the end. I mean what more could someone possibly say about race in an era of a black president? Is Mooney now obsolete? Goes without saying that white people are in for a rough 50 mins on this DVD; stick with it though because you find some absolute gems that look at the whole absurdity of race consciousness. I really feel we are almost there now - most people think that the whole 'race' thing is bull nowadays.

Like the last hurrar of the legendary Bill Hick, this is one not to be missed. A fitting DVD title for the end of the last real political black comedian. Highly recommend.
