Haider or Bang Bang: what’s your choice?

16 hours ago | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

This weekend will be one of the biggest weekends at the Bollywood box office, as two of the most awaited films of 2014, Haider and Bang Bang, will be released on the same day October 2nd, and will have to “fight” to get the biggest chunk of the audience collections. However, are these two films really rivals? Considering that they are completely different in terms of genre, budget and probably targeted audience, it does not seem very fair to compare both films, as trade analyst Komal Nahta recently told Ians.

In any case, what do these two films have to offer? Keep reading to find out everything you need to know!

Haider is Vishal Bhardwaj’s third approach to Shakespeare’s work after Maqbool (2003) and Omkara (2006). An adaptation of Hamlet, the director takes the story to the snow-covered valleys of Kashmir. One of the biggest appeals of the film is the cast, »

Hrithik Roshan & Katrina Kaif sizzle in the song ‘Tu Meri’

22 August 2014 6:32 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Audiences already entralled by the trailer of Bang Bang, now have another treat in the form of a song from the movie. This is Hrithik and Katrina’s first movie after the successful Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. The song is picturised on the couple Rajveer and Harleen meeting for the first time and in that first instance are attracted to each other.

“Hrithik has danced like never before. His energy is unreal. There’s no one like him, and this everyone will reiterate once they see this song! Katrina is the perfect match for him in this high octane song. The timing of the song in the film is very crucial as they meet for the first time and there is instant chemistry. I hope ‘Tu Meri’ is a dance number which everyone falls in love with and I’m certain it will find a place in everyone’s playlist! »

Poland Lures Foreign Films as Local Biz Rises

14 May 2014 10:58 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

You would never guess from the level of international co-productions heading toward Poland that the country remains one of the few in this corner of Europe without cash-back incentives.

Agnieszka Odorowicz, topper at the Polish Film Institute, is justifiably bullish on the rising number of such joint projects — currently at around 40 per year — but has said the lack of sweeteners is an issue that needs to be addressed. But even without them, the institute’s work is clearly reaping rewards.

Since 2005, some 130 production companies have set up shop in Poland, many of them capitalizing on financial support from the Pfi, which administers a film fund created through a tax on television, exhibitors and distribs passed a decade ago. More and more of these new players, the recipients of more than 500 film grants, are partnering with foreigners to the benefit of both parties. In 2014, the institute’s budget was $42 million for development, »

It is a two-time hungama for Ranveer Singh and choreographers Bosco-Caesar. After scoring a whopping hit with the 'Tu Ne Maari Entriyaan' in Gunday, the team hasreunited for the condom ad which is creating ripples across the nation.

Apparently Ranveer now plans to use Bosco-Caesar's choreography for his film songs as much as possible, much in the same way that Madhuri Dixit depended for dancing on Saroj Khan.

Laughs Bosco, "That's a tall order. But my partner Caesar and I are working towards a durable rapport with Ranveer. For us doing this ad is as good as doing an award-winning song."

Bosco is all praise for Ranveer, "He was the perfect choice for the ad. He was simply fab! His energy level was infectious. We were all charged up along with Ranveer during the shooting."

How Zoya Akhtar picked the title Dil Dhadakne Do

3 April 2014 3:40 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Here’s something interesting we have just learned about director Zoya Akhtar. Did you know she picks her movie titles from songs and more specifically from Excel’s films’ songs? For example, the title of her 2011 super hit Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is one of the songs from Excel’s film Rock On!! Imagine it could have been called ‘Sinbad the Sailor’ instead of Znmd if she had picked another song from Rock On!! Apparently everyone around her has been saying that taking the title from a song has been extremely lucky for her. So, for her next film she is taking that same road. This time around the director has taken the title for her upcoming film Dil Dhadakne Do from the popular track from Znmd. Apparently about a dysfunctional Punjabi family, the highly anticipated film has a very exciting ensemble cast which includes Ranveer Singh, Anil Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, »

Travelling abroad in Hindi films: The Nervousness of the Global Indian

24 March 2014 11:08 PM, PDT | DearCinema.com | See recent DearCinema.com news »

Kangana Ranaut in Vikas Bahl’s “Queen

Hindi films about Indians traveling abroad have captured the imagination of the audience – if the successes of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) and now Queen are any indication. These films are targeted at metropolitan/ multiplex audiences, those likely to be more aligned with the global world than with rural India which is only a few hundred kilometers away.  These films appear to celebrate the newly found boldness of the global Indian, his/her willingness to take chances and seek out risky occupations/ ways of life. Until a little more than half a century ago crossing the seas was almost taboo for Indians, but this has apparently changed forever. Traveling abroad is now presented as emblematic of acquiring boldness and becoming independent- an implication found in all the three films cited above. Still, a closer examination of the new films has »
