TV Ratings: Bengals-Cardinals NFL preseason and a 'Big Brother' high lead Sunday

25 August 2014 9:04 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Fast National ratings for Sunday, August 24, 2014. A season high for "Big Brother" delivered Sunday's best individual performance among young viewers, but it was an NFL preseason game between the Bengals and Cardinals that led NBC to Sunday ratings victories. Among other Sunday notables, "Rising Star" rose a tiny bit in its season finale and "Unforgettable" was also up a hair. Note that Fox had NFL preseason overrun, skewing its early-evening results, while NBC will have the normal live event uncertainty. We'll also have to wait until later for major cable results, including the series finale for HBO's "True Blood" and MTV's Video Music Awards coverage. On to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, NBC averaged a 1.8 rating for Sunday night, tops in the key demographic. CBS was second with a 1.3 key demo rating, followed by Fox's 1.0 key demo rating. ABC averaged a 0.8 key demo rating for the night. Overall, NBC averaged »

The Best Shows and Stars That Won’t Even Be at the Emmys This Year

22 August 2014 8:30 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

The 66th Annual Primetime Emmys are Monday, and plenty of wonderful — and some staggeringly wonderful — shows and performers will no doubt walk away with armloads of awards. But many will not. Many terrific, thrilling shows and performers were not even nominated, if you can believe it. Such is life. Let us now air those grievances. For comedies, it's great that Bob's Burgers won outstanding animated program at the Creative Arts Emmys, but plenty of us consider that the best comedy on TV right now, cartoon or no. (Archer has its mega-supporters, too.) Parks and Recreation has such a solid place in my heart it's hard to believe the Academy doesn't feel the same. Shows like the execrable Episodes rack up nominations, while Broad City gets nothing. I don't actually expect Broad City to be nominated for an Emmy, but I wish it would be, since the show's so damn good. »

The Winners of the Creative Arts Emmys Are Here

18 August 2014 8:16 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

So the big Emmys don't air until next Sunday night and at Moviefone we will have, of course, full coverage. But last night the Creative Arts Emmys were handed out, for the people that are largely responsible for making these shows that you absolutely love -- you know, the behind-the-scenes talent tasked with conceptualizing and realizing your favorite programs. Oh -- and some guest actor and actresses awards were handed out, so there's that too!

In the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category Uzo Aduba took home the prize for "Orange is the New Black." Since we are, very shamefully, one of a handful of Americans who hasn't seen a single second of "Orange in the New Black," this doesn't mean a whole lot to us, but we are very happy for her! (We promise, we'll watch soon.) For the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, the »

The first round of 2014 Emmy Awards were handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony on Saturday (August 16) night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.  The ceremony, which precedes the Monday, August 25 Primetime Emmy Awards telecast, offered signs of hope for a number of drama and comedy hopefuls. Netflix's "Orange Is The New Black," for example, won Emmys for editing, series casting and for Uzo Aduba, who is considered a guest actress for the purposes of these awards. No other comedy series was able to build any other momentum going into next week's show, with "The Big Bang Bang Theory," "Nurse Jackie," "How I Met Your Mother" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" grabbing isolated tech prizes and Jimmy Fallon winning the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series award for the second time in three years for his "Saturday Night Live" hosting duties. TV Ratings: Giants-Bills NFL preseason opener leads NBC on Sunday

4 August 2014 9:06 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Fast National ratings for August 3, 2014. The NFL Hall of Fame Game, the pro football preseason opener, helped NBC dominated Sunday night among young viewers and also hold off "Big Brother" and CBS for an overall win. The Giants-Bills tilt took a small bite out of CBS's numbers (impacted very slightly by golf overrun), but mostly left things steady.  All numbers are subject to change, but this year's Hall of Fame Game appears to be down a comfortable margin from last year's preseason opener, which featured the Cowboys. On to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, NBC averaged a 2.2 rating for Sunday night, doubling up CBS' 1.1 rating in the key demographic. ABC and Fox both averaged a 0.9 key demo rating for the night. Overall, NBC averaged an estimated 6.7 million viewers and a 4.1 rating/7 share for Sunday night, topping the 3.9/7 and 6.16 million viewers for CBS. ABC was third with 3.885 million viewers and a »

Seth Meyers, Taran Killam & 'The Awesomes' team preview season 2

4 August 2014 8:59 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

The TV presence at Comic-Con has expanded to the point where shows that only vaguely fit the Con's mission (say, "Sons of Anarchy") have become popular fixtures. Hulu's "The Awesomes," which returned for a second season today (you can see the first two new episodes here, along with all 10 episodes from season 1), though, fits several overlapping core Comic-Con constituencies. It's a show about a team of super-heroes — albeit misfit super heroes whose great powers are undercut by stupidity, or deep-seated mommy issues, or various physical and emotional ailments that make the team's most powerful member, Seth Meyers' Prock (who can stop time) a guy who rarely does anything useful with his gifts — made by people (including Meyers, his "Late Night" producer Mike Shoemaker, and writer Dan Mintz, whom you might recognize as the voice of Tina Belcher on "Bob's Burgers") with clear love and knowledge of many eras of comic book-dom. »

28 July 2014 8:56 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Fast National ratings for Sunday, July 27, 2014. "Big Brother," "Unforgettable" and "Reckless" were all steady for CBS, leading the network to Sunday victories in all key measures. Animation repeats put Fox in second overall (and first in the 18-34 demo), while ABC was second overall, as "Rising Star" continued to lose steam after a couple seemingly encouraging weeks. On to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, CBS averaged a 1.2 rating for Sunday night, topping Fox's 1.0 rating in the key demographic. ABC and NBC both averaged a 0.7 key demo rating for the night. Overall, CBS averaged an estimated 6.19 million viewers for Sunday primetime along with a 3.9 rating/7 share. ABC was a distant second with 3.33 million viewers and a 2.0/4, topping NBC's 2.97 million viewers and a 1.9/3. 5-minute trailer for The Simpsons/Family Guy crossover

28 July 2014 7:23 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Want to see how the Griffins are going to get on with the Simpsons in the forthcoming crossover episode? Step this way...

In an attention-grabbing concept worthy of Jack Donaghy himself, Family Guy is crossing over with The Simpsons in a one-hour special. Consider our attention grabbed, Fox, well-played.

The forthcoming episode sees the Griffin family stranded in Springfield where the families' various counterparts team up to crack meta jokes about plagiarism and piggyback network scheduling, and, by the looks of this not-quite-safe-for-work trailer, to once again flog the madly popular but indubitedly dead horse of Peter fighting that chicken.

Bob's Burgers, by the way, is excellent. We should say that more often on this site.
