While watching football, Berta bets Charlie her Christmas bonus on a long field goal attempt by kicker Zrbnyk. In season 6, episode 9, "The Mooch at the Boo", Charlie's new neighbor, former NFL player Jerome Burnett (Michael Clarke Duncan), says his wife left him for a place kicker named Gryl Zrbnyk.
Evelyn calling out, "ALAN!", repeatedly, before finally shouting it as Alan sings "Jingle Bell Rock", is a reference/tribute to The Chipmunks, a 1960s singing group lead by Dave Seville. Many times, "Alvin The Chipmunk" would get carried away while singing a song and hog the limelight. "Jingle Bell Rock" was one of those songs. Dave would be heard shouting, "ALVIN!", to regain control of the song.
Evelyn Harper makes a subtle reference to the late Carl Reiner's and Mel Brooks' hilarious comedy routine, "The 2000-Year-Old Man" (circa 1960), when she tells everyone Marty Pepper (Carl Reiner) is "1000 years old". I suspect copyright laws may have prevented a direct reference.
Episode title spoken by Marty Pepper (Carl Reiner), to Evelyn.
