Discovery’s Betty Sets Up U.S. Production Arm

London — U.K. TV production company Betty, which is owned by Discovery Communications, has launched a U.S. production arm. The new division will be led by Discovery Networks International senior executive Jon Sechrist.

Betty makes primetime factual entertainment, features, specialist factual, documentary and adventure shows, including “Heston’s Great British Food,” “The Undateables,” “Bear Grylls: Mission Survive,” “Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners” and “The Fabulous Baker Brothers.” It supplies programs to major U.K. broadcasters including BBC, ITV and Channel Four, as well as TLC and Discovery, and its shows have been sold to more than 63 countries.

Back to the pit: “BBQ Pitmasters” returns to Destination America

“Maybe some of the best BBQ of any season yet!” Myron Mixon (pictured) told us that when we asked him what to expect from the new season of Destination America’s hit competition series BBQ Pitmasters, which begins April 12. Mixon is back at the judges’ table this season, along with returning judge Tuffy Stone and new judge Moe Cason, a self-taught Pitmaster and fan-favorite contestant from an earlier season. Daniel Laikind to Lead Original Media as CEO

Daniel Laikind has been appointed CEO of Original Media, parent company Endemol North America announced today.

The top spot at the unscripted shingle had been left vacant following Charlie Corwin’s hiring as co-ceo and co-chairman of Endemol North America in October of last year. (Cris Abrego also serves as co-ceo/chairman of the studio.) Corwin, who founded Original Media in 2002, called Laikind an “asset to the Original Media team and to Endemol overall.”

“Daniel has had a profound impact on the unscripted genre in both long form and short form and is known for creating edgy, quality content,” Corwin stated. “I love his work. He is very well liked and respected in the creative community and among buyers.”
