‘Rizzoli & Isles’ to End After Season 7
TNT’s long-running drama “Rizzoli & Isles” will end after the upcoming seventh season.

Turner Entertainment chief creative officer Kevin Reilly confirmed the cancellation Thursday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, Calif., saying “It felt like it was time.”

The final season will air summer 2016 with 13 episodes.

“I think both ladies had a very satisfying experience,” Reilly said of “Rizzoli & Isles” stars Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander, when asked if the series coming to end was influenced by the actress. In the police procedural, Harmon stars as police detective Jane Rizzoli and Alexander plays medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles.

After Season 4, creator Janet Tamaro stepped down as showrunner, exiting the series with Jan Nash stepping in.

Returning TV Series to Receive $90 Million in Next Round of California Credits

Returning TV Series to Receive $90 Million in Next Round of California Credits
Returning TV series will receive the lion’s share of allocations — $90 million of the $100 million available — in the next round of the California film and TV tax credit program before the commission launches its expanded program.

California Film Commission director Amy Lemisch made the disclosure Thursday at a presentation at the American Film Commissioners International Locations Show at the Century Plaza with program director Nancy Stone. Several hundred attended the event, dubbed California’s Film & TV Tax Credit Program 2.0.

The seemingly massive allocation for returning series for 2015-16 was not a surprise, given that more than $77 million of the $100 million available for 2014-15 was allocated to a dozen series, led by $11.5 million for “Teen Wolf,” “Rizzoli & Isles” with $8.9 million, “Pretty Little Liars” with $8.4 million and “Major Crimes” with $7.9 million.

A lottery determined the other recipients for the remaining $23 million — the same process to be used for the remaining $10 million of

What a CD Really Does

Back Stage's Dec. 9 news analysis, "And the Oscar Doesn't Go To…," examines why casting directors haven't been awarded Oscars in recognition for their work. The feeling I got from those interviewed is that we do not deserve them, and it was even suggested that the process of casting the main characters in features rarely involves the casting director at all. The article seems to say that the main cast is largely assembled by the producers and director, and the casting directors are merely responsible for casting the "tertiary characters."About the casting of the film "The Kids Are All Right," Steve Pond of TheWrap.com is quoted as saying, "The actors in that movie all do a great job, and it's a great job of casting, but was it done with a traditional casting director? The story I hear is it was all done with personal relationships." He is referring
