Too obscene, awkward and unrealistic

"Tabu" is a 25-minute live action movie from 2010 written and directed by Vincent Coen, Jean-Julien Collette and among their more known career efforts I guess. This is a Belgian production, but no worries as it is still in English and also there are several subtitles available. This is the story of a young man and his parents and the most fateful meeting of his life he is about to make. The cast is not familiar to me, maybe to Belgians? The main actor did not convince me, the two playing the parents were fine and as foe the love interest I am undecided. I think if we look at the details here, the filmmakers made several good decisions, for example that they were not afraid of nudity and the final shot was really brave too. But sadly the core plot (twist) of the film felt very unrealistic and absurd for me. And this is the one deal breaker (next to the sub-par male lead performance) that is the main reason I give this one such a low rating. Quite a shame as I thought indeed that some production values were pretty okay. But the lows are way lower than the highs are high. One crucial thing is that no matter how young they wanted the guy to look like with the clothes etc., the mother was simply too young and it was glaringly obvious. Another would be that the film dragged occasionally. 15 minutes would have sufficed too. And finally, on a side-note, the summary here on IMDb needs to be adjusted as you can easily guess what's going on, especially if you take a look at the right side and the names of the lists this is included in. Pity. Big thumbs-down from me. Don't watch taBOO.
