Peter Kay: Raider of the Pop Charts
25 November 2009 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Comic Relief, we got the chance to see the making of one of the most loved and profitable music videos ever made. Comedian Peter Kay took the 1971 Tony Christie song "(This Is The Way To) Amarillo", which he had previously used in a episode of Phoenix Nights, and created a charmingly funny and money-making masterpiece. Basically Kay lip-syncs the entire song, walking on through some real places, and mostly on a treadmill with a background put in by green screen, and he is accompanied by many celebrities, past and present. So it shows Kay filming the video, the moment Ronnie Corbett tumbled, the cameos by his alter-egos, the rise to number one, and it includes some of the people involved, and general fans. Narrated by Liza Tarbuck, with contributions by Patrick 'Paddy' McGuinness, Tony Christie, Pete Waterman, Richard Curtis, Coronation Street's William Roache and Anne Kirkbride, Mark 'Bez' Berry, Rainbow's Geoffrey Hayes, Jim Bowen and Sir Michael Parkinson. Peter Kay was number 12 on TV's 50 Greatest Stars, he was number 2 on 100 Greatest Stand-Ups, and he was number 1 on The 100 Greatest Funny Moments. Very good!
