Logan, the newly turned vampire, claims he cannot get in his own house because he got no one to let him in as Logan lives alone. But if no one human lives in a house vampires can get in without being invited in as it was implied in the situation with Damon killing Ms. Gibbons to get into the tomb vampires' lair. See more »

Career Night is the new bowling...
30 November 2009 | by (Australia) – See all my reviews

Logan wasn't exactly subtle with his wanting an invite from Jenna. He tried too hard. Poor Daphne (characters with that name don't seem to have much luck). Oh, crap, NO! Not a Jeremy voice-over! Being an artist myself, it was nice to see that he draws. These scenes were kind of boring. The Stefan/Damon scene was better.

I liked Damon's line to Stefan about trying out for The Amazing Race. Then he had to go and bring up bad memories, referring to "the blonde one" that he staked (aka Lexi). I'm sure Stefan was just as unhappy while he was listening in with his super vamp hearing. After the overload of Bonnie's story in the previous episode, I didn't mind her brief appearance in this one. At least she was grateful to Stefan for saving her from Damon (despite discovering that they're both vampires).

When Damon was saying that he wouldn't have been so obvious (referring to poor dead Daphne), all I could think was, "HA!". If I remember correctly, dead people were turning up all over the place in the early episodes (he even killed the Coach at a football game!). I'd class that as being "obvious".

Damon putting his whammy on Caroline (for like the millionth time) never gets old. As screwed-up as their "relationship" is, they're both always entertaining in their scenes together. Can't say I felt too bad for Damon when he got shot by Logan (yes, in my mind, Damon's still paying for what he did to Lexi, so he deserves any pain he receives). Logan was mildly amusing with his use of the word "funky", as was Damon and his "Oww!". Logan's line about eating "housekeeping" was also good (though his pile o' bodies was a somewhat nasty visual).

Logan & Damon's "How do you walk in the sun?"/"Who turned you?" back and forth got a bit tiring/repetitive after a while, and Logan's "I've got things to do and people to kill." is such an old/over-used line. I did like him pumping Damon full of more wooden bullets, though. He totally deserved it.

I liked Elena/Stefan's scene when he told her he'd wanted to be a doctor, but couldn't, because of the blood (maybe he needed to spend some time with Dr. Carlisle Cullen?). And like the Cullens, Stefan mentioned the whole thing about moving on before anyone noticed he wasn't aging.

Logan's little wave to Stefan amused me. I liked Stefan not taking Logan's crap and warning him, "Don't ever. Threaten me. Again.". I also liked Damon's whole "Now I'm vengeful." talk with Stefan on the phone (regarding Logan shooting him). For some reason, I liked the way Damon said, "Well, I'll be right there.". Poor Caroline - forever the vamp bait. Logan smashing her head against the window (complete with blood) was nasty.

The Mayor proved to be even *more* of a jerk than Coach Tanner, by encouraging his own son, Tyler, and Jeremy to fight. Thankfully, Saltzman came to the rescue (and awesomely called the Mayor a "full-grown alpha male douche-bag").

As much as I still hold a grudge against Damon for killing Lexi, I did enjoy seeing him and Stefan working as a team to take down Logan (with Damon getting his payback by shooting Logan). Damon continued to do a good acting job when on the phone to the Sheriff (nice mention of Elm St., there). The best bit was Damon preparing to golf Logan's head off with the tire iron. I also liked Damon insisting that Logan make his taking him down "look real".

Please tell me Tyler's not going to be revealed as a werewolf sometime in the future? That lingering shot of the full moon above him (coupled with his anger management issues) obviously suggests that he will. If it actually makes him interesting, though, I guess it's okay.

I'm glad Elena and Stefan finally moved ahead in their relationship, and I thought their sex scene scene was well-done (nicely shot, good use of song, and - best of all - no Edward/Bella-like angst about how he'd harm her during it).

Was very grateful to Saltzman for staking Logan and ridding us of his presence. I just hope Saltzman doesn't turn out to be some sort of male slayer or something (I rather he be a vampire - like his ring seems to suggest).

Elena/Stefan's post-coitus scene was good (with her asking him if he was thirsty, then catching herself), but things really got interesting when she (at long last) stumbled upon the photo of Katherine and - understandably - freaked out at the likeness she shares with her. Despite my better judgement, I felt sympathy for Damon learning that he'd lost his second chance of getting Katherine back. Ian Somerhalder sold that reaction very well. As did Paul Wesley reacting to Elena's swift departure. Meanwhile, Nina Dobrev was very impressive with her reaction in the car. Though, Elena, I know you were upset...but leaving behind your Vervain necklace wasn't exactly the smartest thing to do - as if to prove this, we ended on some vampire (nice crunching bones/snapping leg back into place effects, by the way) causing her car to crash and approaching her while she screamed.

Well...I'll say, this was a neat little cliffhanger to leave us with until the show returns next year. While the show started off kind of rough, it quickly got moving/got good after a few episodes, and despite these last two episodes not being quite as good as the previous ones...this series has definitely shown improvement over the course of its first half a season. I think it's proved itself, and is now one of my must-watch shows. I think there's a lot of potential for a really good series here, and I hope it delivers with the second half of the season yet to come. Can't wait!
