Very disappointing
12 February 2014 | by (Manning, SC) – See all my reviews

I enjoy role playing games, LARPing and science fiction/fantasy. I like Peter Dinkage, Steve Zahn, Ryan K. and Summer Glau. Ever since watching Gamers:Dorkness Rising, I have hoped to find another movie half as good at least (Hands of Fate was not good). I should have loved this movie and was excited to watch it after reading a few reviews that said it was terrific. Apparently someone is either writing false reviews, has not actually watched the movie or perhaps is being paid for reviews. It is not unheard of and I really hope it does not happen on IMDb but I am beginning to wonder.

In this instance, the basic setup is okay and the premise is okay. With these great actors (and actress), it could have been fantastic. Ssdly, it mainly makes fun of the LARPing, RPG scene. The jokes are more at the expense of geeks and nerd than WITH geeks and nerds. The plot is very slow moving and never really apparent. As a demon is mentioned in the brief summary, it is no spoiler that there is a demon. What might be surprising though is that the demon really looks like it is from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Watching it you will see what I mean.

The movie is a great disappointment and what worries me more is that producers will see this movie and others in the genre and falsely assume that there is no market for this type of movie. Often dislike of bad movies is confused with disliking a genre. More movies like Gamers:Dorkness Rising and less movies like this (or Gamers:Hands of Fate) and there will be a good market.
