Exclusive: Emilia Clarke and Noel Clarke thrillers also among titles to secure German deals.

Swiss distributor Ascot Elite Entertainment Group has finalised rights to a string of high-profile independent titles for German-speaking Europe.

The company’s Afm haul includes all rights to a new documentary biopic about iconic musician Prince from Us sales outfit 13 Films

Directed and produced by Michael Kirk (Find Your Groove), Prince: R U Listening? is set to chart the musician’s early years and rise to super-stardom as seen through the eyes of his bandmates, friends and family including Dez Dickerson, Prince’s first guitar player and Andre Cymone, Prince’s close friend and original bassist.

Contributors will also include Bono, Mick Jagger, Billy Idol, Lenny Kravitz and Sheila E. The film is due to be relesed in Q2, 2017.

Also from 13 Films, the company picked up completed mystery-thriller Voice From The Stone, starring Emilia Clarke (Game Of Thrones), Marton Csokas (The Equalizer) and Caterina Murino »

Ascot Elite Entertainment Group has finalised rights to a string of high-profile independent titles for German-speaking Europe.

The company’s Afm haul includes all rights to a new documentary biopic about iconic musician Prince from Us sales outfit 13 Films

Directed and produced by acclaimed Us doc producer Michael John Kirk, known for his work on PBS documentary series Frontline, Prince: R U Listening? is set to chart the musician’s early years and rise to super-stardom as seen through the eyes of his bandmates, friends and family including Dez Dickerson, Prince’s first guitar player and Andre Cymone, Prince’s close friend and original bassist.

Emilia Clarke in First Voice From The Stone Footage

The first footage from Emilia Clarke's forthcoming supernatural mystery, Voice From the Stone, is now available to watch. The lavish period film, which takes place in 1950's Italy, was recently aquired by Momentum Pictures out of Afm.  Besides Clarke, A Voice from the Stone also stars Marton Csokas (The Equalizer) and Caterina Murino (Casino Royale). Andrew Shaw adapted the screenplay from the 1996 Italian novel "La Voce Della Pietra" by Silvio Raffo. Synopsis: Set in 1950s Tuscany, Voice from the Stone is the haunting and suspenseful story of Verena, a solemn nurse drawn to aid a young boy who has fallen silent since the sudden passing of his mother. – Bleecker Street has announced it has acquired U.S. and select territory rights to “The Man Who Invented Christmas,” to be directed by Bharat Nalluri. The film will start shooting next month and is targeting a holiday 2017 release date.

The cast includes Dan Stevens as Charles Dickens, Christopher Plummer as Scrooge and Jonathan Pryce as Dickens’ father. The Solution is handling rights for the rest of the world. The script is written by Susan Coyne and is based on the book “The Man Who Invented Christmas” by Les Standiford, published by Crown. The film recounts how Charles Dickens created the classic holiday fable, “A Christmas Carol.”

Set at a castle in the 1950s and starring Emilia Clarke, Voice From the Stone has been acquired by Momentum Pictures for North American distribution early next year.

AFM: Emilia Clarke’s ‘Voice From the Stone’ Bought by Momentum (Exclusive)

Momentum Pictures has acquired North American rights to the Emilia Clarke supernatural thriller “Voice From the Stone” with a release in the theaters and on demand in the first quarter, Variety has learned exclusively.

Game of Thrones” star Clarke and  Marton Csokas came on board the project in 2014 when sales-finance company 13 Films signed on to co-finance and handle international sales. Dean Zanuck and Stefano Gallini-Durante are producing and Eric D. Howell directed  from Andrew Shaw’s script, based on Silvio Raffo’s Italian-language novel “La Voce Della Pietra.”

Caterina Murino, Remo Girone, Lisa Gastoni and Edward Dring also star. Principal photography took place Italy. Pic is Howell’s feature film directorial debut. The film was financed by Bruce Johnson, Zanuck Independent, and Producer Capital Fund.

Clarke plays a solemn nurse drawn to aid a young boy named Jakob who has fallen silent since the untimely death of his mother nearly a year ago. »

Afm: Olga Kurylenko joins 'Jane Millen' for 13 Films

The actress will play the lead in the thriller which the Los Angeles-based company will finance and introduce to worldwide buyers next week.

Jane Millen is scheduled to begin shooting in April 2017 and centres on a veteran detective battling her inner demons who is assigned to investigate the murder of wealthy couple.

Cynthia Mort, whose credits include The Brave One and Nina, will direct from her screenplay.

13 Films president Tannaz Anisi will produce the film alongside Karen Kehela Sherwood and former Endgame executive Greg Schenz.

Jai Khanna of Brillstein Entertainment Partners also serves as executive producer. 

Kurylenko most recently appeared in Giuseppe Tornatore’s La Corrispondenza alongside Jeremy Irons and A Perfect Day with Benicio del Toro and Tim Robbins.

13 Films reports Cannes rush for 'Extortion', 'Manhattan Nocturne'

Exclusive: President Tannaz Anisi and her team have returned from the Croisette following a slew of deals on two of the company’s prestige titles.

Los Angeles-based 13 Films has sold action title Extortion starring Barkhad Abdi, Eion Baily and Danny Glover to Ascot Elite Entertainment for Germany, Signature Entertainment for the UK and Interfilm Co. for Japan.

Further deals closed in Spain (Corbi Media), Greece, Indonesia and Turkey (Tanweer), Portugal (Nos Lusomundo), China (DDDream), South Korea (Sookie Pictures), and the Philippines (Ocotarts).

The film is in the final stages of post and made its market screening debut in Cannes. Phil Volken directs Extortion from his screenplay about a vacationing doctor who must find his kidnapped family after they are stranded on an island. Bethany Joy Lenz also stars.

Manhattan Nocturne stars Adrien Brody and Yvonne Strahovski and Grindstone Entertainment Group released the film in the Us via the Lionsgate Premiere label on May 20.

Exclusive: The sales agent has come on board to handle international rights excluding Greece to the romantic drama starring J.K Simmons.

Worlds Apart will get is market premiere in Berlin and comprises three romantic tales, each between a foreigner and a local, that weave together against the backdrop of the financial crisis ravaging southern Europe.

Writer-director Christopher Papakaliatis also stars alongside Simmons and Andrea Osvárt.

Kostas Sousoulas, Papakaliatis, Dorothea Paschalidou, and Chris Papavasiliou produce. Gersh represents Us rights.

The 13 Films slate includes The Archbishop And The Antichrist starring Forrest Whittaker and Vince Vaughn to be directed by Roland Joffé, and thriller A Patch Of Fog starring Stephen Graham and Conleth Hill that premiered in Toronto.
