Mesmerizing Documentary
19 June 2010 | by (Portugal) – See all my reviews

Cangleska Wakan is an enthralling, unusual documentary which leaves the viewer wanting more. The small audience here at the Cowichan International Aboriginal Film Festival seemed somewhat mesmerized, I know I was but can't decide exactly what was mesmerizing, the cinematography? the celestial / intangible tone? the fascinating characters? the score? Whatever it was it worked and was effective. The only flaw was that the interviewees were not identified apart from Russell Means who introduced himself.

The re-enactment scene portraying the death of Crazy Horse was executed simply and effectively although how accurate the re-enactment is might be questionable but this scene of over five minutes certainly enhanced the production value of the documentary.

Overall, Cangleska Wakan is worth watching especially due to the overt opinions from the interviewees.
