Arabian Nights Secures Backing from Kazak Film

As director Chuck Russell gears up to shoot his '1001 Arabian Nights' adaptation, simply titled Arabian Nights, in Kazakhstan, that central Asian state's own Kazakh Film has stepped in to provide backing on the project, putting up close to $10 million.

Chuck Russell decided to shoot the $70 million film in Kazakhstan after location scouting for more than a year. Arabian Nights, which stars Liam Hemsworth and Anthony Hopkins, will begin production this June.

FilmDistrict will distribute Arabian Nights in the states.

Arabian Nights comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Liam Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins. The film is directed by Chuck Russell. »

Liam Hemsworth Joins The Expendables 2

21 September 2011 5:56 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Well, after all the wild rumours and wishlists we're finally starting to get some official casting announcements for The Expendables 2. We recently had confirmation that both Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris had signed on for the sequel, and also that Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger were confirmed to have expanded roles this time around. Now this week the aging cast is getting a little bit of youth in the form of Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, brother of Chris Hemsworth (Thor). Considering that Taylor Lautner was once rumoured to be under consideration for the film, I wouldn't be surprised if Hemsworth was their second choice. Word on the street is that Hemsworth will play a sniper in the film, and although that's not much to go on, I really don't think we need to know much more than that. Just like his brother, Hemsworth is a big boy at »

Liam Hemsworth Is Young and 'Expendable'

19 September 2011 3:37 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

It's about time we got some young blood to this party.

Liam Hemsworth will continue to be a man of action after "The Hunger Games" wraps as he's been recruited for "The Expendables 2," according to Variety.

The younger brother of "Thor" himself will be joining Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger for the next round of bloody bullet-ridden mayhem.

The details of Hemworth's whippersnapper role haven't been revealed, though our guess is he's going to end up being the long-lost son of one of the aforementioned old-timers (probably Stallone's, come to think of it). Either that or Statham's younger brother.

Hey, whatever the part is, we'll take it!

Liam Hemsworth will next be seen as Gale Hawthorne in "The Hunger Games," opening March 23, 2012. He's also got the war drama, "Awol," and "Arabian Nights" on the horizon. »

Universal Picks Up Arabian Knights From Video Game Adaptation Expert Kyle Ward

17 May 2011 7:53 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Universal Pictures is already engaged in one battle of similar projects against a rival studio, as just yesterday they shifted the release date of their Snow White and the Huntsman to compete more directly with Relativity Media's The Brothers Grimm: Snow White. It might look on the surface that they're doing the same thing with the new script they've acquired called Arabian Knights, given that FilmDistrict is also hard at work on an Arabian Nights adaptation starring Liam Hemsworth. But according to the Variety article we don't know anything about Knights except that it's "radically different" from the Hemsworth one, so we can put that concern to rest. But now that there's not a head-to-head battle to choose sides in, what can we analyze about this? Not much. The script comes from Kyle Ward, who has done a lot of writing you haven't seen yet-- the script for »
