Fun, action packed, locally produced film
mbeebe00728 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
JC Films and company have produced an out of pocket (that means no budget) independent film that is fun, action packed and entertaining to watch. Jarrod Crooks utilizes the local settings of Wausau, Medford and the surrounding Wisconsin areas to tell the story of a bad thief gone good. By recruiting local talent Jarrod's cast and crew members achieve a heighten sense of reality that's entirely too crazy to happen to anyone but his character Toby. Toby's girlfriend Lindsey, well played by Shannon McDonough, is on the verge of dropping him because he can't be serious about their relationship, or so she thinks. Caught in the middle of pulling off jobs as a small time thief to support himself and his Lindsey, Toby is "recruited" to steal evidence that will incriminate a thug's ex-wife. The thug Robert Fitzal(amusingly played by Nate Shallue) wants nothing more than to get his ex-wife off his back and put her away for good. While trying to steal the evidence he needs, Toby puts himself in danger by exposing himself during the caper. Now he must deal with being discovered as a thief by his girlfriend, beaten up by the ex-wife's boyfriend and getting killed by Robert. Did I mention the ex-wife is two timing her boyfriend with her attorney? No? Well there you have it... she's evil, but in a disturbing, hot, attractive way. There are more plot twists than you can shake a stick at. What more do you want? Romance, suspense, drama, action, comedy and locations you can actually go see, right here in Wisconsin. Support your local film makers by taking the first step and watching this movie. The action sequences alone are worth the price of admission. Cheers!

Stands up to the big guys in the hills
BenWydeven9 February 2010
With 'Thieves Like Us' Jarrod Crooks has taken the action genre normally full of big name actors and massive explosions and bought it down to his level.

Crooks is a master at martial arts film making and this latest film is one that will surely put him on the map as a bankable filmmaker.

And while the acting is not always up to the par and the story might sound too familiar, (two professional thief buddies, one wants to quit for a woman...) the film has heart and balls in the same hand.

This film may not be available in the main stream market, but it certainly deserves it's mark as a underground classic.
