Author: Competitions

To mark the release of Rules Don’t Apply on 14th August, we’ve been given 2 digital download codes to give away.

It’s Hollywood, 1958. An aspiring young actress, songwriter, beauty queen and devout Baptist virgin, Marla Mabrey (Lily Collins: Mirror Mirror, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Love Rosie), and her young, ambitious, deeply religious Methodist chauffeur, Frank Forbes (Alden Ehrenreich: Hail, Ceasar!, Blue Jasmin), both struggle with the absurd eccentricities of the wildly unpredictable billionaire they work for, Howard Hughes (Warren Beatty: Dick Tracy, Bonnie & Clyde, Reds, Shampoo). Their attraction to each other not only puts their religious convictions to the test, but also defies Hughes’ #1 rule: no employee is allowed to have any relationship whatsoever with a contract actress. Hughes’ behavior draws them both deeper into his bizarre world and their lives are changed forever.

Geostorm Trailer #2 Takes Climate Change to the Extreme

6 July 2017 10:41 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Warner Bros. has released the second trailer for Geostorm, showcasing the devastating effects of a very extreme version of "climate change." While this fictional tale surely won't sway the naysayers who think climate change is a hoax, with these massive action set pieces that show various forms of weather systems getting extremely out of control, it certainly could provide some big-budget escapism from the current political climate. This trailer hints that Geostorm may in fact be the most action-packed movie to hit theaters all year, and it could also be a dark horse box office blockbuster, starring Gerard Butler.

The story is set in the aftermath of an unprecedented series of natural disasters that threatened the planet in ways never been seen before, which lead the world's leaders to come together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe. Cannes: Harald Zwart on Fulfilling a Childhood Dream With 'The 12th Man'

21 May 2017 2:48 AM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

With films like The Karate Kid and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Norwegian director Harald Zwart has established himself in Hollywood as a go-to-guy for mainstream genre titles.

But the 51-year-old filmmaker regularly returns to his native Scandinavia for a local-language project, including, in 2006 and 2008, the first two installments in soccer comedy franchise Long Flat Balls.

Zwart is back in Europe for his latest, The 12th Man, but the drama, marks a major departure for the director. His first period picture, the movie is also Zwart's first true-life drama: the story of Norwegian resistance hero Jan Baalsrud »

Hugo Weaving Climbs Aboard Peter Jackson’s Fantasy Epic Mortal Engines

13 April 2017 7:24 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

From Middle-earth to Mortal Engines, former Lord of the Rings star Hugo Weaving has inked a deal to climb aboard Peter Jackson’s long-in-development adaptation.

Per Variety, this marks the pair’s first collaboration since orchestrating The Battle of the Five Armies three years ago, when Weaving played the iconic role of Elrond. And though his role in Mortal Engines is yet to be confirmed – sources close to Variety claim he’ll play Valentine, head of the Historians – securing Hugo Weaving’s services is certainly a massive coup for Universal’s wildly ambitious adaptation. Lifted from the pages of Philip Reeves’s four-part steampunk series, we know that the studio has already appointed Christian Rivers at the helm, who will direct a script from Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.

Set thousand of years in the future, Mortal Engines follows the remnants of humanity as they roam the ravaged landscape aboard huge, »

Falling DVD & Blu-ray sales, and an era passing

21 March 2017 2:58 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Simon Brew Mar 23, 2017

As DVD and Blu-ray sales fall, it's no longer certain that films will get a disc release. So what's happening?

Let’s start with a statistic.

In 2013, Hotel Transylvania shifted 1,029,614 copies on Blu-ray disc in the Us alone. A hefty number, yet the animated hit – which has thus far spawned one sequel, with another on the way – was only the 23rd best-selling Blu-ray release of the year in America that year, just trailing titles such as Turbo, Rise Of The Guardians, Django Unchained and Life Of Pi.

2013 was arguably the peak year for Blu-ray sales, with 23 individual titles selling a million copies or more in the Us. The best-selling of all, Despicable Me 2, shifted 4.6m copies alone, and many more overseas. On the DVD format, meanwhile, 45 different films sold a million units in America in 2013, including another 2.7m copies of Hotel Transylvania.

In recent years, however, »

If you love disaster movies, then this first trailer for Geostorm should scratch a particular itch, with massive tornadoes, tsunamis, and loads of destruction.  come inside to check it out!

I've long been a sucker for disaster/weather movies.  The idea of contending with an unstoppable force (nature) and the havoc it can cause is an interesting one and can make for some exciting set pieces.  As such, I can't help but feel excited based off this Geostorm trailer:

Let's be honest here...the story, as with Most disaster films, probably isn't going to be all that great, but that's not why I'm going to end up seeing this film.  I'm going for the ridiculous amount of awesome destruction on display.  What do you guys think?

Newswire: Peter Jackson’s Mortal Engines casts its lead actor

3 February 2017 7:18 AM, PST | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Peter Jackson’s latest literary adaptation keeps moving at a steady pace, as Variety reports that his Mortal Engines movie has just cast one of its lead actors. Robbie Sheehan’s (Fortitude) role isn’t currently known, but he will lead the cast. The dystopian steampunk world of The Mortal Engines source book—which is driven by “Municipal Darwinism,” in which larger cities consume smaller ones for their resources—should allow him to strap on interesting gadgets or at least some goggles. But Sheehan is probably already hoping this Ya adaptation will fare better than The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones, which he starred in back in 2013.

Also joining the cast is Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’s Ronan Raftery, who has a supporting, also undisclosed, role. Jackson’s reassembled his usual team for the movie; he’ll produce and co-write with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens ...

Today we have word that the first cast members have come aboard, with Robbie Sheehan and Ronan Raftery signing on. No details about which characters they're playing have been revealed, but Robbie Sheehan is playing a lead character, while Ronan Raftery is playing a supporting role.

Variety broke the news on this casting, while also revealing that Universal and Mrc are hoping to start production this spring, in Peter Jackson's home country of New Zealand, and that a December 14, 2018 release date has been set. As of now, no other movies are slated for release on that date, but Sony has set up their untitled Spider-Man animated film one week later on »
