It is interesting name of this episode "Johari Window" if you know
about the idea behind of this theory. There are always four areas of
matters that you know or you don't know:
1. Something you know and other people know (Open Area) 2. Something you know and other people don't know (Hidden Area) 3. Something you don't know but other people know (Blind Area) 4. Something you don't know and other people don't know (Unknown Area)
Any human being like any one of us are deemed to have hidden area and blind area though sometimes there are also unknown area, it is not really a matter of concern! Are we really want to move our Hidden Area to the Open Area, it is really a matter of our openness to our personal "public" relationship. Exposing something that we don't really want other people to know can be hard and shameful sometimes. However, when this hidden area is more and more transformed to an Open Area, we should have easier time to build up long time relationships with friends and family members. Along the similar thought, if we can ask for advice more often from our friends and family members, effectively we will shrink the Blind Area to the Open Area.
It is really a matter of Integrity we are talking about here. It is really hard to uphold Integrity if you keep your Hidden Area and Blind Area as big part of you life!
The challenging point of this episode is that do you really want to expose something that is not beautiful to you to people you care? On the other hand, do you really want to face the "ugly" side of fact of someone you care even you know the fact?
The whole idea of a "Johari Window" is to try to bust into that 4th
Window - The one that has stuff that you don't know and others don't
know. The more stuff in the 1st Three windows, the better you can guess
what's in the "Unknown Area"
And that's what Edina is: An Unknown Area, and the people who live there want to keep it that way.
This is another expert Fringe episode of Misdirection, and it had Walter chasing a huge Macguffin: Until he finally remembered: "Hard Artichokes Rarely Keep: Norwegian Elephants, Singapore Sleep"
Walter is recovering from being Kidnapped by Thomas Jerome Newton. So he's afraid to go out in public anymore. This is affecting not only his relationship with Peter, but his work ethic as well: But it is this particular Pattern Event that breaks him out of that. The idea of finding a "Werewolf" gets him excited. Apparently, there are people near Edina who can change their appearance!
But Walter does not find any evidence of Lycanthropy: Instead, he finds a beautiful butterfly, which he catches to bring to Astrid.
But when they get a body and the butterfly back to the lab, the butterfly has reverted to an ugly, deformed MOTH - And so has the body! Which gives Astrid a scare when she zips open the body bag. The man, who was normal in Edina, is now deformed.
Walter uncovers a secret: A secret which he was involved with for a short time for some Army experiments. It is up to Walter now, to either let the secret out, or to continue keeping it - For the safety and peace of mind of the people of Edina. But which? Walter has to choose.
