You're as good as your best work, and a series is as good as its best episodes. This is one of the best.
Pontus takes center stage. We learn what's troubling him. Involved in this character development are his father and his own son whom he has rejected. Parallel to this is a young teenage sniper whose motivations also are engaged due to his father's death.
Along the way, the story places on display underworld gun dealers, a gang of snipers, and cops who develop criminal sources and wish to protect them, even when other cops need information.
Wallander continues to use psychology in dealing with those around him. This comes out especially in his interviews. But Pontus is a mystery to him. He won't obey orders and yet he is brilliant. Only when Pontus's father pays Kurt a visit does he begin to understand and protect Pontus, like a father.
This is a well-constructed and complex story. I rate it more highly because of its seamless meshing of an exciting story with the personal lives of the main characters. I'll have to watch it again some time. Reading the subtitles and keeping track of the foreign names being tossed around quickly was not easy.
