More excitement, less character development, 6 June 2012
Author: msroz from United States

This Wallander series is running out of steam, coasting on its past, and looking more and more like an ordinary once-a-week TV detective story.

Not that the stories are bad, but that they have less meat to them. More implausibilities are entering the scripts. We are learning less about characters and their motivations. Wallander is much less clever and thorough because the stories do not allow him to be, since they are less clever.

Several murders occur via an explosion at a beach house. It turns out that multiple adultery is involved among rich but -- once again -- underhanded business people who don't fail to use others to do their hanky-panky.

To add suspense, Katerina's daughter is chummy with the daughter of one of the couples and both get caught up in a dangerous situation. Wallander manages not to call for backup, when he should. Karin looks lonely among her corpses. Nyberg doesn't come up with his usual clues.

At one point, Wallander looks like he swam a good half mile with his shoes on in the ocean.

Little things made the earlier episodes very good. These are less and less visible and being replaced by more exciting chases.

Looks like almost time to call it quits.
