In a CBI fund raiser party promoted by Doverton jewelry, owned by the hostess Esther Doverton, Patrick Jane performs a show to help the agency. Meanwhile, there is a heist in the firm and Esther's husband Carl Ward surprises the thief and is shot. The CBI assumes the investigation and soon the suspect Doyle Murphy is found shot in the head in his apartment. The further CBI investigation stumble upon his brother-in-law Donny Culpeper, but Patrick suspects of Esther's nephews Tom and George.
