The Complete History of America's Team is far from complete.

I was very hopeful going into watching this but came away very disappointed at what it lacked. The birth and building of the Cowboys, the years 1960 through 1965 are covered in an only 4 1/2 minutes. There is a great story behind how Dallas got this franchise, including Lamar Hunt and the coming American Football League, that is entirely missing. By the ten minute mark, Super Bowl V is discussed, with barely a mention of one of the legendary games of NFL history, "The Ice Bowl." The first ten years of this teams' "complete history" are covered in less then 10 minutes.

The Cowboys first great decade, the Seventies, are concluded by the 34 minute mark with Roger Staubach's retirement. 10 years that included some of the best drafts in the NFL, great highs with very few lows, and four Super Bowl seasons are covered in a mere 24 minutes. Ten minutes later, we are already at Tom Landry's firing in 1989.

The first 30 years of Dallas Cowboy history are documented in less than 45 minutes and the "complete" history is given just 73 minutes for this very storied franchise. The only thing complete about this history and documentary is the complete embarrassment of calling it a complete history. The only things that stand out are the interview with Tom Landry, Tex Schramm, Bob Lilly, Don Meridith and other legends of the team.

The DVD is aided greatly by the additional NFL Films featurettes on great games, stories and players from Cowboys history.

As much as I love this football team, the feature documentary is awful. I cannot give it better than a three out of ten. It might be fun for a new fan or someone who doesn't know much about the team or has a short attention span. Unfortunately, I don't fit that description and the title lead me to believe that this would be comprehensive. Bummer.
