MI-5 is called into action when a terrorist group takes control of a group of very rich entrepreneurs who are meeting secretly in London. The Security Service hadn't anticipated any difficulty as they had no intelligence indicating the meeting was at risk. As luck would have it, Ros Myers is on site planting a bug and so MI-5 already has an agent on the inside. The terrorists put the capitalists on trial, streaming the proceedings over the Internet and asking viewers to vote on whether they should be executed or not. The CIA want the UK government to launch an attack and even threaten to do so themselves, but Harry sees it as a sure way to get everyone killed. The Home Secretary decides it's the only way out and orders the attack. Lucas North meanwhile is trying to get information on the terrorists' leader in the hope of proving he is a phony. Separately, Jo Portman approaches Ruth Evershed suggesting she speak to Harry Pearce and rejoin the team. Written by garykmcd

Ruth Evershed: You're all flustered.
Harry Pearce: Yes, well, that happens sometimes... such as when a group of armed thugs kidnap eight of the wealthiest and most politically powerful men on the planet.
Ruth Evershed: And on my first day back, too. Harry, you shouldn't have.
Harry Pearce: What? Either that or a basket of muffins.

Rich men and their secrets
20 November 2009 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

It was another exciting week for men and women of MI5 when a meeting of a group of eight of the worlds richest and most influential men is over run by terrorists and held in an underground bunker. Luckily Ros is on site providing security but unfortunately she had to lose her communications gear thus the rest of the team can't know what is happening in the bunker.

It soon becomes clear that the terrorists are going to put each of their wealthy hostages on "trail" for their companies' dubious activities in the third world. These trials are being aired live on the internet and the evidence is both detailed and embarrassing... so embarrassing that the Americans are threatening an air strike to silence them if MI5 or the police don't silence them first. Even though it is known that the terrorists have rigged the room with explosives it is decided that the room will be stormed rather than risk an international indecent. Things look like they might work out when Ros manages to convince one of the terrorists that their leader is less than sane; she unlocks the rooms lift which allows easier access to the room so one MI5 officer can go down and try to talk them out of it by explaining how their financial backer was just using them.

As with all Spooks episodes the cast do a great job and we feel that they are in real danger as we know what has happened to previous members of the team.
