Charlie St. Cloud has been given the gift of seeing his deceased brother, but when a new love interest is in trouble he must choose between saving a life or continuing to see his brother everyday.
On his birthday, Stefan is surprised by a visit from Lexi, one of his oldest vampire friends. Still upset by the way events ended at the Halloween haunted house, Elena does her best to stay away from Stefan, but Lexi gives her some unsolicited relationship advice. Meanwhile, both Elena and Jenna are surprised by a change in Jeremy's behavior in the wake of Vicki's "disapearance". But only Elena knows that Damon's mind-wipe powers did something to her brother. At Damon's insistence, Caroline tries to get his medallion back from Bonnie who continues to study her wican heritages with her grandmother's help. Elsewhere, Damon's offer to help Sheriff Forbes has sudden and tragic results since she does not know that he is the vampire that she and her circle of hunters are looking for. Written by

Liked: The opening scene/introduction of Stefan's oldest (vampire) friend, Lexi, showing up for Stefan's birthday. When I first saw her, I thought, "Wow, she bears a striking resemblance to Adrianne Palicki." then thought, "Wait a minute...who do I know who looks like Adrianne Palicki? Of course! Arielle Kebbel". Both Wesley and Kebbel had this easy-going chemistry between them that really made you believe their characters were old friends. I loved all their scenes together.
Lexi and Damon's first scene together. Her "Unexpected surprise? I think the wrong brother went to high school." mocking of Damon was just one of many good lines from her character. I'm glad she wasn't suckered in by his whole "bad boy" persona, and I liked her vamping out and throttling him (as well as the her being older and stronger comment).
Finally getting to see Jenna's response to Logan supposedly skipping town. So she doesn't know what the real deal is/was with him - but that was to be expected. Anyway, the best bit was her and Elena remarking on Jeremy's personality overhaul (Elena: "What do you think - alien?", Jenna: "Some sort of Replicant."). Speaking of...Jeremy was actually *tolerable* this episode, thanks to him not wallowing over dead Vicki. Thankyou, Damon, for this.
Bonnie revealing her witchy power to Elena. Although, it's funny how differently Elena reacts to one supernatural being revealing their true self (Stefan - a vampire) as opposed to another (Bonnie - a witch). So she wasn't freaked out after learning her best friend was capable of magic? How very understanding of her.
Caroline's encounter with Damon. Her calling him "Dungeon Boy" amused me. It was really quite unnerving how, one minute she was telling him off, then the next...she was all smiles/happy to see him thanks to him influencing her. Never stops being creepy. I do like the two of them in all their scenes, however (creepiness included).
Stefan and Lexi's next scene (the one with her blood bag and confessing she tried "the animal diet", but it only lasted three weeks). I liked her in this scene, and hated that I could see what was going to become of her by episode's end. I liked her meeting Elena too. Lexi's reaction to seeing Katherine's lookalike was good, as was her not spilling the beans (it's cool that she respected Stefan enough to leave it up to *him* to tell Elena about the similarity she shares with Katherine). In fact, Lexi was just plane cool the entire time. She wasn't a bitch, wasn't out to steal Stefan, she was just his vampire friend - and a pretty awesome one at that (which, of course, meant she was doomed from the start). I loved Lexi's "Are you out of your freaking mind?" to Stefan, then her "Oh, so Elena's not a raging bitch then?" (referring, of course, to Katherine and the similarities between the two).
Matt thanking Stefan for at least *trying* to help Vicki (despite his earlier anger towards Stefan).
Caroline and Damon's next scene. Yeah, he's horrible to her, and I always feel sorry for her given the way he treats her...but I still like their interaction (and his "Damnit! Why's it do that?" line - referring to the crystal burning Caroline's hand when she tried to take it off Bonnie - amused me). His telling her "No, you're the only stupid thing here. And shallow. And useless." was nasty, though.
Lexi influencing the bartender.
Elena calling Lexi "Towel Girl" (and Lexi shrugging that off with, "I've been called worse.").
I didn't like Elena's (admittedly short-lived) jealousy over Lexi hanging with Stefan, but was glad when Elena actually got to *know* Lexi, they had their talk, and you could see that they were almost becoming not quite "friends", but starting to respect each other.
Stefan and Damon's smack-down/Stefan staking Damon (though I was annoyed that he didn't actually go through with killing his brother - though we know Damon's not going anywhere anytime soon). Way to avenge Lexi, Stefan! Not.
Disliked: Elena's flip-flop (on what she said to Stefan at the end of last episode) at the start of this episode. Not being able to be around him? Make up your mind!
Caroline's Sheriff mother. Not only because she was played so easily/like a fiddle by Damon, but also because she (and the other elder vampire "hunters" - not that they can really be called that) simply bore me. I especially hated them by episode's end.
The fact that I could see what Damon's plan was coming a mile away. Hmm, vampire problem? Wanting to get the town elders off his back? New vampire Lexi just happens to be in town? It was fairly obvious, wasn't it?
Having to watch Damon's "diabolical master plan" play out (his "It's part of the plan." line reminded me of The Joker from TDK). I really, REALLY hated watching Lexi get stuck with the needle of Vervain, dragged out, shot at (though I loved her laughing off the bullets), then - worst of all - DAMON STAKING HER! Damnit! Her "Why?" was especially sad. And nasty effects on her dying, too (way worse than Vick's death). Poor Lexi/Arielle Kebbel. You were great! Miss you already! You didn't have to KILL HER, writers! With Vicki gone (why was Kayla Ewell still in the credits?), I was hoping Lexi would replace her. Can we maybe get some Stefan/Lexi flashbacks? Please, show?
This episode loses a star for killing off Lexi (I would have rated it a 9 if she'd survived). Yes, it was obvious from the start, but I still hoped they wouldn't go through with it...but, of course, they did! Way to make me hate Damon now, writers! Argh! Lexi was too awesome to die so horribly! Okay, now I'm depressed. For this reason, I can only give the episode a 8.
