Action Comedy, with Fantasy, Satire, and Problems !

This was just another comedy from the big comic star (Adel Emam) despite the smart fantasy factor. It's a rare time when I complain about a movie as a comedy. Only a comedy!

The script wanted us to laugh more than to think. There are many comic story lines and situations that overcame anything else such as : the stupid 2 messengers, played by (Ala' Walli el Deen) and (All' Moursy), who were sent from the year of 1807 to pursue the belated (Harfoosh), or the sketches about (Harfoosh)'s journey through the contemporary Cairo. Not to mention another story near the end about a treasure (!), where (Harfoosh) is remembering things might happen to him in his town later (His future after he'll return back to his time ??!!) which's wholly nothing but a very fabricated third act's plot.

The real "message" of the movie was the political satire about the "invasion" of corruption in our very present days. And how the "Governor" must stop it powerfully with more justice. But the problem is that it seems so unrelated to the actual message of help that the notable men of (Rasheed) have sent with (Harfoosh), 191 years ago, to rescue their town from the British attack! And it turns into naive as well when (Harfoosh) goes to the governor's palace and informs him of the whole message to discover at last that he was talking to a statue ! Though maybe that's a part of the satire itself where it symbolizes how the authority is separated from the people.. Hmm.. Maybe ? Actually all the social contradictions had been done out of the drama as detached photomontage; which weakened any possible seriousness this movie has.

On the other hand there were some fine elements. For instance the lovely star (Yossra) who was so shining as nurse (Enas). (Adel Emam) succeeded in portraying the sad confusion of such a character. By the way (Yossra) made so many movies with (Emam) but that's their second fantasy after (El-Ens Wa El-Gen) or (Humans and Demons) in (1985). (Ressala..) is directed by the brilliant director (Nadder Galal). He made a lot of memorable Action and thriller movies during 30 years since the start of the 1970s, before dedicating to direct TV series since the 2000s. Here you touch clearly his ambition to present a new taste for the commercial Egyptian movie.

Nothing can deny the uniqueness of the idea (the time travel), or its well-meaning goal (reviewing the contradictions of our very era), with the enthusiasm as well as the courage to make it through the ordinary production of the Egyptian cinema which misses this kind of fantasy very. So it's a rare movie indeed especially with the presence of (Adel Emam) as a very lovable and bankable star, but in the same time it's just a good action comedy with a different atmosphere more than a perfect fantasy or an important satire.
