- Shaw sends Chuck and Hannah on a mission, forcing Sarah to work with him. Morgan and Ellie team up to find out information regarding Chuck.
- Shaw nearly suffocates while attempting to 'borrow' from a prestigious LA exhibition Alexander the Great's golden mask, rightly believed to be used by the Ring for smuggling high tech contraband from Damascus. Chuck rescues him, unwittingly helped by new Buy more colleague Hannah, and the pair of them is hired by the museum director for the opening night. Shaw feels Chuck is ready for more responsibility and teams him up with Sara again.—KGF Vissers
- "Chuck" - "Chuck vs. the Mask" - Feb. 8, 2010
In a "Mission Impossible"-style heist Shaw zips down to grab an artifact in a museum but the beam his harness is attached to loses a screw and sets off an alarm leading to decompression of the chamber. He calls Casey to ask Chuck for help.
At the Buy More Hannah asks Chuck to go on his next install so she can learn the ropes. He says okay but then Sarah walks in and tells him about Shaw. While they talk out of earshot, Morgan explains to Hannah about Chuck and Sarah's past. Chuck claims an emergency and takes off and Hannah runs after him much to Morgan's consternation.
He arrives at the museum and Casey asks Chuck to override the server and get Shaw out. Chuck arrives at the museum control center where a curator is going bonkers saying the computers baffle and confuse him. Casey and Sarah are above the vault trying to get the door open. Hannah arrives to help just as they realize Shaw has less than a minute. Hannah sits down and they get to work. Shaw tells Casey and Sarah to just blow the hatch. Chuck begs them not to. They reboot instead and it works and they pull Shaw out. Chuck and Hannah hug. The curator thanks them and asks them to come back the next night to ensure no bugs for the unveiling of the "Mask of Alexander." Since this is what Shaw was trying to steal, Chuck and Hannah take the job.
Back at HQ Shaw brings Sarah her coffee, just how she likes. Chuck and Casey arrive and Shaw explains the artifact, and other like it, are being used to smuggle in stuff for The Ring. They're not sure exactly what but there are previous museum break-ins. Chuck will be in control room. Casey will handle surveillance. Shaw and Sarah will pose as guests at the party. They'll also bring along a decoy mask. Chuck will keep an eye on Hannah.
Morgan goes to visit Ellie to discuss the Chuck-Devin secret. Morgan thinks Chuck is trying to protect him from going to his "dark place" because of Sarah dumping him. Morgan says he's going to investigate at the Buy More.
Chuck and Hannah go over Nerd Herd stuff at the Buy More while Sarah and Shaw check off the items on their list. The respective couples take off, both with a touch of nerves.
Back at the museum the party is in full swing and Casey watches on monitors in a nearby van. The curator ushers Hannah and Chuck into the control room. Shaw and Sarah talk about the vault opening at 8. Shaw explains about what Sarah should do while kissing her neck to cover his murmurings.
Hannah tells Chuck the real reason she took the Buy More job: him. She hopes it isn't too forward but she kisses him. Then they start making out in earnest. Then she notices Sarah on one of the monitors and pulls back and asks why Sarah is there. Other than making Chuck jealous with her hot date. Chuck says he's only hot if you like "Superman-y" types. Chuck then flashes on the Ring thief who is in the house. He goes to tell Sarah and Shaw. Shaw knows the guy, he previously set his face on fire, and it turns out that the thief has a few friends with him. So, in order not to blow their cover, Shaw leaves so Sarah and Chuck can take care of it. Hannah watches Chuck talking to them on the montor, Shaw leaving, and Chuck walking off with Sarah and is bummed.
Chuck disables security remotely so he and Sarah can slip off but this throws Hannah's world into a tailspin as alarms go off and the curator returns in a tizzy telling her she's got five minutes to fix it.
Chuck snarks that Shaw and Sarah make a cute couple. Shaw, in the van, overhears this conversation and Casey cuts their mikes so he doesn't hear. Sarah shoots back that Chuck and Hannah are inseparable. Chuck claims he's just being a professional. Chuck lowers Sarah into the vault just as the Ring thief's goons enter. They knock Chuck off balance so Sarah goes flying up and Chuck goes flying down. A fight ensues. Hannah works to get the vault open and then Shaw and Casey shut it down remotely. Sarah continues to fight with the goons. The door opens and closes much to the chagrin of the waiting party crowd. Chuck grabs the mask. Sarah drops the decoy. He catches it and makes the switch. Sarah pulls him back up just as the door to the vault finally swings open thanks to Hannah.
Chuck comes in and apologizes and Hannah is incensed that he abandoned her on her first assignment to be with Sarah. She wonders why he told her things were over when they're clearly not. He says he and Sarah have a unique relationship. Hannah feels stupid, thinks Chuck is a jackass and thinks they should keep things professional from now on.
Ellie comes to visit Morgan this time. Morgan explains about the museum and Chuck abandoning work. Ellie thinks they're back to square one. Morgan wants to have an intervention and force Chuck to tell them the truth. Then Chuck enters and Morgan backs down. He and Chuck leave for work and Ellie calls him a coward.
The Ring mask thief looks over the security video of the night before. After looking at Sarah and Chuck entering the vault and Chuck and Hannah making out, the thief thinks Chuck is one smooth operator.
At the Buy More Hannah stews and Morgan inquires after the museum job saying the curator called to rant. She says she doesn't want to point fingers but ... Morgan knows she wants to protect Chuck but he's the boss and needs to know. And then the phone rings. It's the Ring thief pretending to be a museum employee. He calls and asks for Hannah to be sent. Morgan sends her and Hannah is psyched.
At Castle Shaw and Sarah talk about professional boundaries. She says they are just colleagues and he needs to keep his coffee and cheesy come ons to himself.
Hannah arrives at the museum and the thief intercepts her, he says the curator is "tied up." He ushers her into the vault with the dummy mask and locks her in and starts the decompression.
The phone rings at the Buy More and it's the thief telling Chuck that he has to bring the mask or he will kill his "girlfriend." Morgan tells Chuck that Hannah is at the museum. The thief tells him to come alone. Morgan wants to talk and Chuck takes off. Morgan tries to follow him and is confused with Chuck seems to disappear in the home theatre room. (He's gone through the floor.)
Chuck calls Sarah to say he needs the mask just as she and Shaw get the base open and a cloud of cyclosarin gas pours out. Glassed off in another room, Chuck flashes on the name and tells them there's a counter-agent that can be taken that will save them from the poison gas. He figures the Ring thief must have the counter-agent since he probably wouldn't have sent the poison without having the antidote.
As we cut to Hannah losing oxygen at the museum Chuck radios Casey and tells him to suit up because they're heading back to the museum. The pair race off to the museum. Chuck is freaking out about the plan to give the thief another fake mask and save Hannah and Shaw and Sarah. Chuck comes up with another plan that includes faking more poison mist.
Back at the castle Shaw, in a potential deathbed confession, admits that he's been hitting on her and he apologizes. Sarah apologizes for overreacting and admits that she liked how he kissed her neck at the party.
An alarm on the screen tells them the poison is contained and the room is clear but Sarah clearly needs the antidote. Shaw shoots out the door and grabs Sarah and slings her over his shoulder.
Chuck shows the new fake mask to the thief but demands to Hannah be set free. The thief says Chuck's is in no position to make demands. Chuck unleashes the faux gas and the thief freaks saying he's killed them all. The counter-agent is in a vase. The room is full of art vases. Chuck finds the right one, conks the thief, and grabs the antidote. They rush off to the control room where Chuck works on rebooting the system to save the now dying Hannah. He succeeds. The doors open. Shaw carries Sarah in and they both take the counter-agent. They're both okay. Chuck runs to Hannah and wakes her up. She thanks him for saving her life with a big hug. He apologizes for acting weird the other night and she tells him to forget it. The two couples sit on the floor holding each other. The Ring thief takes a peek at this.
Back at the castle Shaw congratulates them on the nice work and thanks Chuck for saving his life and Sarah's. Casey thanks him too. Chuck demurs saying he has a great team. Sarah, Shaw, and Casey say that the team can't last forever, that the Intersect should eventually work autonomously, that they are his training wheels, and due to his good work, they're about to come off.
As Chuck leaves Sarah catches up with him to check in. He says he'll be fine but gotten used to them working as a team. She says eventually they'll just slow him down professionally and personally. He asks if she's really okay about Hannah. She says she is and that she's great. He says she and Shaw are perfect for each other, even though it bugs him. They have a meaningful exchange of glances and say goodbye to each other with a smile.
Ellie comes to the Buy More to see Morgan and do the intervention. They spy him, after hours, running through the store and wonder what weirdness he's up to. They steel themselves and follow him. He's in the home theatre room making out with Hannah. Ellie is thrilled. Morgan is devastated but pretends to agree that it's a relief.
Sarah and Shaw work in the castle. Casey takes off. They exchange meaningful glances.
Chuck and Hannah continue to make out. Morgan continues to mope.
Shaw gets up and begins to rub Sarah's shoulders. She likes.
Chuck and Hannah make out. Morgan takes off.
Sarah hesitates about Shaw's massage and what it means. He tells her to relax.
The Ring thief reports to the Ring high command- a group of men arrayed behind a high podium in shadow- that he saw Shaw in the museum. He asks what they're going to do. They say the same thing they're going to do to him and shoot him.
