Storyline

P.C. Joe Penhale's older brother Sam arrives and Martin employs him to paint the waiting room and surgery, but his lack of coordination leads the doctor to believe he is not well. Joe panics, believing the brothers have an hereditary disease but Sam's illness is actually caused by lead poisoning, as a result of his illegal side-line. Louisa gets nearer to renting a house in town, owned by an old hypochondriac whilst Martin is strangely touched when he sees her X-ray photo of the baby. Written by don @ minifie-1

Quotes

Bert Large: How would you feel, if you lost your girl? Because if you're not careful, she's gonna leave you, toothbrush and all.
Al Large: [startled] What?
Bert Large: First off, you follow her around like a lamb.
Al Large: No, I don't.
Bert Large: Yes, you do, and Pauline don't like it.
Al Large: How do you know?
Bert Large: Because she told me not to tell you. And you're "seamy".
Al Large: I'm what?
Bert Large: "Seamy".
Al Large: I don't even know what that means, Dad.

"You're a mentally deranged time-waster"

The stupid police constable's brother is in town. He's a painter and spends much of the episode working on Doc Martin's office. However, while doing this, he shows some troubling symptoms--with a lack of coordination and memory impairment. Martin wants to run some tests to rule out Huntington's and other problems. However, when the dopey PC learns about this, he imagines he's having all sorts of symptoms.

Other plots in this one involve an old man who wants to be sent off to a nursing home--and so he fakes a variety of illnesses in the hopes that he'll get placed in the home. Also, Louisa is quite worried about the baby's development--as the fetus seems awfully small. Overall, a decent but otherwise unremarkable episode.
