A Strange End for a Disgusting Villain
tomasmmc-7719817 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After the filler arc, time has come for Orochimaru to take a new body. The moment he waited for almost three years, and that Naruto and company feared since Sasuke left the village. The Sannin knew the Uchiha would oppose to the transference. So facing a critical moment of his existence, some flashbacks of his past are showed: when Orochimaru's parents died, Hiruzen was there with him at the cemetery. He found a shed from a little white snake, and his sensei explained that it was a rare coincidence, it's a sign of fortune and rebirth. He also tells him that the sign is related to his fate, and that his parents may be reborn in some place else. A time later, Orochimaru is shown on the mission that Nawaki was participating. But from the back, he saw Tsunade's brother going fast and reckless, falling into a bomb trap. He got saddened then, and helpless watched how a young shinobi died, and Tsunade's pain. Some time ago, he was also a witness the night Dan died in Tsunade's arms. The war and death made him realize how fragile is human's life, so he started his experiments. Another flashback shows Anko as a girl, who knew about her sensei's interest in avoid death. He told her that he advanced in cell regeneration, and secretly already had in mind the cursed seal. She also saw the white serpent little shed, that Orochimaru kept as a memory. In time, he fell deeper and deeper studying the jutsus to make a transference to another body, and to achieve immortality. He studied surrounded by books full of content including forbidden jutsus, and intended to know them all. The day Hiruzen confronted him, his plans were revealed and left the village. But he also got an interest in the Sharingan when he saw the skills of the young Itachi. When the Uchiha joined Akatsuki (Kisame and Orochimaru were already members), he tried to take his body, but failed. Itachi told him that every jutsu Orochimaru tries, will never have effect in the Sharingan. But he was obsessed, and at the end Sasuke joined him. And so now, the moment has arrived. Sasuke transformed slashes the giant white serpent, but a vapor from the wounds acts like a drug, so Orochimaru takes him to the dimension where his ritual takes place. In there, Sasuke is already in his normal form, so he uses the Sharingan to counter attack Orochimaru's intent to take his body. Looks like the reverse process takes place, and Sasuke consumes the evil Sannin. Kabuto reaches his master's room and soon realizes what happened. They didn't think it was possible, but Sasuke told Orochimaru the same words Itachi used: his jutsu have no effect in the Sharingan. In the meantime, the sunset goes red. Tsunade, Naruto, Jiraiya, Anko (who inadvertently kills a little white snake), and Itachi are aware that something happened.

Orochimaru was a scary villain in the first part. But when Hiruzen sealed his arms, the Sannin started a slow road to usefulness as a character. He was in decline. Akatsuki was turned into the new main villain of the story. Also, the background shown for Orochimaru was never strong. His parents died, but there's no picture from them. His desire to be immortal was coherent, he was an evil mind, but at the end, he never achieved it. He only took bodies and became a monster who lives in the seal of cursed ninjas. If someone like Hidan was immortal thanks to Jashin, well, Orochimaru knew there were other darkest possibilities. Anyway, this finale doesn't convince much. It would have been better if Orochimaru was killed definitely by the Akatsuki, Hiruzen or Tsunade, in any case. Then, Sasuke is becoming darker and darker. He was happy by consuming his sensei. The creepy old man who taught him a lot in almost three years. If Sasuke would have actually killed him, it would make more sense. But consuming him, makes the Uchiha a dark new villain.
