The trivia item below may give away important plot points.

When Spartacus attempts a second thrust at Batiatus' head, it is impeded by Doctore who catches Spartacus' arm with his whip. Crixus then comes to Spartcus' aid and cuts the whip. This act by Crixus was somewhat symbolic of what the revolt ultimately did to Doctore. The whip stood for Doctore's authority; it was how he maintained order. Crixus cutting it, stood for the Gladiator revolt- in destroying the House of Batiatus, they not only made Oenomaeus' position as Doctore useless, but they ruined his life's work. Oenomaeus was a devout servant of his master and his purpose was destroyed by his own brothers. This led to his own self-inflicted shame and self-destructive lifestyle in the Pits. (As will be shown in Season 2, "Vengeance."
