[6.8] Colony or town?!
cjonesas28 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 3: Slowing down, not quite as interesting as the first two episodes, with big kinda useless fillers disguised as development. Nothing ground-breaking, nothing really advancing the story... Even the stones which look quite interesting are wasted, for now at least, and their real "power" and the story behind them are not shown and depicted.

Writers, it is too slow for such a show with such a mysterious premise. Also, where are other people, including some kind of police force from other nearby (main) towns?! You don't wanna tell me that they are all alone out there with electricity and supplies!

So far, it's alright
ahmadz83911 December 2022
An improvement after the mildly underwhelming second episode. But I'm not too fond of the way Julie is written. Her edgy teen attitude and nonsensical actions make her seem like a character out of a CW show. Furthermore, it is absurd that the parents would abandon their child with strangers in such a situation.

It was interesting how the show contrasts the coping mechanisms of two distinct groups. While the residents of the town attempt to live a regular life while holding out hope for an escape, the colony home residents exemplify the adage, "live each day like it's your last and nothing else matters." What created the gap between these two societies will be intriguing to explore.

"From" has potential, and I'm looking forward to seeing if the writers can realize that potential without falling back on tired tropes. All I want is for them to maintain a consistent emphasis on the mystery while keeping to the show's internal logic.

Rating: 6.9/10 (It Gets the Job Done, Slightly Flawed)

alright

Warning: Spoilers
Well, the first episode was very strong but then we had a mild second one.. it made no sense the girl there killing the boy that was in the car and nobody caught it.. she got away with murder by just hiding the body, I guess..

then third episode, we already know that little boy that can see the dead people during the day is gonna do something that will allow the ghosts to come inside the big house or whatever they live at..

the teen daughter, obviously, the rebellious one that doesnt and probably wont obey her parents and probably make everybody get in danger.. and she is clearly infatuated with the Sheriff's son... that already has a gf.

The guy that was called creepy and is checking if the trees moved.. of course he is going to be important in the future.

We can guess the sheriff and son probably have some drama due to the mother dying.

Getting strong Under the Dome vibes
chebosky6 April 2023
Finally getting around to watching this. Started off with a great premise. I love a good scifi/horror mystery box type show, but I'm already seeing tell tale signs that the writers have no idea where they are going with this and are creating contrived drama to prolong things while never actually addressing the premise of the show.

This reminds me of a lot of the shows that popped up in the wake of Lost, most only lasting a season or two. It feels like a show from that era, and the drama is the same cliche type stuff you would have expected. Basically, many shows came around that started with a great interesting premise, but in order to hopefully drag it out for 5 years of something you barely get any resolution for the central mystery. So big answers will come in season premiers and finales and everything in between will be the same kind of contrived drama you could find on just about any show. Getting strong Under the Dome vibes

I will keep watching for now, but if cracks are showing already after 3 episodes I have little hope of this getting better. I hope it starts moving. With the mountain of content coming out it's still rare to find a good show like this.

What Happened?
milesrdavis23 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show is off to a promising start, but I don't know how this episode is rated the highest of the first few episodes. Most of the folks are pretty good actors, but that whole family is just so annoying. They slip into serious mode well enough, but when they're living in their shockingly quickly accepted new home in the Twilight Zone they're suddenly B-Rate creature feature supporting actors. Especially the boy. Maybe he's what a real boy would act like in the situation, but he seems kinda... simple. Not firing on all cylinders, that one.

Anyway, there's a lack of good monster movies and shows so I'm giving this one the whole season unless it gets real bad. Special effects are pretty dang good, unique enough plot, even if parts are a little hanky. Them townsfolk went from helping complete strangers to coming close to fisticuffs over an arbitrary rock or flower ceremony... which.. a ceremony. That they made up. But must be obeyed with a religious fervor. Also the box. Which is very scary but they've never used it until they had to use it but wouldn't use it but the guy sacrificed himself so it ended up getting used. But darn it if Michael from Lost will be happy about it, even if he did build it!

Also, five bucks says the priest ends up being evil some how. Maybe no mastermind, but we've already established that he's gung-ho about sending that dude to the box which is awful because he's a priest and Michael from Lost said he's the worst priest ever and I believe him because he's a priest and priests are bad.

...we get it. Just start calling him "vicar" and he's the one who done it on Midsomer Murders.

Choosing Day
Prismark1015 October 2022
Rules and consequences seems to be the order of the day in this episode.

For Frank there is a night in the box. Punishment for not being there for his family that left his wife and daughter dead.

A night in the box means certain death and Boyd changes his mind only for Frank decides to accept his fate.

For the Matthews family. There is not much chance to get to know the new townsfolk and settle down.

They have to choose between the blood splattered house in the town, or the cohabiting Colony House which has a more hip, freer side to it.

It is not hard to guess that daughter Julie would not side with her parents. She wants to split and live in the Colony House. Once you make a choice, it is for life.

Some of the rules regarding choosing the house to stay were strange. Having to choose so quickly and it being permanent. No one seems to have put much thought if a family made a split option.

Obviously Boyd Stevens had the same issue with his son.

Choosing Day

Warning: Spoilers
Jade had an over the top and theatrical reaction, but the kind of reaction I think the family should have had more of. We know at some point they had to accept the reality of the situation, but it should take quite some time.

The writing and acting have their issues for me, but the point is about the overall setting and concept and figuring out what the big reveal will be. That's what makes or breaks shows like this and I hope we do not get let down when that comes out.

But so far I am intrigued and Frank owning his fate shows that some characters in the place will have the backbone to face the hard truths.

Julie Matthews is annoying
RosemaryBlue6 July 2023
The episode was good. I just wish whoever wrote Julie Matthews character spared us the teenage drama. Julie did not need to be such a shallow caricature of a teenager. And her attitude completely ruins the flow of the show. I don't think the actress is to blame here, just whoever wrote her character and her script. Her "mother" Tabitha is equally annoying. They're both the kind of stereotypical, non-human character that runs back into a dangerous place to get some superficial thing they forgot. They're both the kind of daft character to do something obviously stupid despite being advised against it because it made sense to them. It's so unnecessary. And it is hard to watch. I hope they both grow a little more in Season 2, especially Julie the irrational teenager.

Poor Frank
Chandelier-495799 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There is an issue i have with this episode and that is Frank being punished.

Not the fact he is being punished but that his wife isn't. If all they had to do is nail the window shut to prevent their little kid from opening it, why didn't she do it?? Grab a hammer and nails and just fix it.

We are supposed to be equal right, but only a man can swing a hammer according to these ppl.

Would be even better to board up EVERY window in this town, just to make sure, who know maybe the monsters figure out how to throw rocks at some point. Or why have their child sleep alone when there are literal monsters around. So many plot holes and questions, but Frank deserves to die for them.

Iffy
DrERH8 May 2023
I'm enjoying the show so far for its fun horror premise and nice building of tension and suspense. The acting varies from good to mediocre, but there is enough variety in characters and interpersonal situations to keep me watching. Looking forward to seeing if there's going to be something creepy about Colony House.

Gotta say, though, The Box is just ridiculous. There's a threat over everyone in town to make them do the right thing: monsters that eat your face and torture you to death! There's just absolutely no need for The Box.

Hope we get more character intrigue and learn more about the zombie-like monsters, the random talismans, and the chickens and cows.
