Tales From The Darkside TV Series Reboot Not Moving Forward at The CW

7 May 2015 12:58 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

The CW won't be returning to the place that's "not as brightly lit", as the network has apparently passed on the reboot of George A. Romero's 1980s anthology series, Tales From the Darkside.

According to CarterMatt.com, The CW will not be moving forward with their Tales From the Darkside reboot, with the show's anthology format and lack of a showrunner reportedly two of the reasons why the network passed on the series.

Joe Hill (Horns, NOS4A2, Locke & Key) wrote and executive produced the project and Kris Lemche (Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Final Destination 3, Ginger Snaps, eXistenZ, Haven) was playing the lead role, a character named Newman who had knowledge of The Darkside and was going to appear in all (or most) episodes.

As fans will remember, the original Tales From the Darkside was a spinoff of Romero's Creepshow efforts. Like a 1980s cousin of The Twilight Zone, »

What was the best year in film history? HitFix readers continue the debate

1 May 2015 6:36 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

HitFix's recent spate of "Best Year in Film History" pieces inevitably spurred some furious debate among our readers, with some making compelling arguments for years not included in our pieces (2007 and 1968 were particularly popular choices) and others openly expressing their bewilderment at the inclusion of others (let's just say 2012 took a beating). In the interest of giving voice to your comments, below we've rounded up a few of the most thoughtful, passionate, surprising and occasionally incendiary responses to our pieces, including my own (I advocated for The Year of Our Lynch 2001, which is obviously the best). Here we go... Superstar commenter "A History of Matt," making an argument for 1968: The Graduate. Bullit. The Odd Couple. The Lion in Winter. Planet of the Apes. The Thomas Crown Affair. Funny Girl. Rosemary's Baby. And of course, 2001, A Space Odyssey. And that's only a taste of the greatness of that year. "Lothar the Flatulant, »

Article by Jim Batts, Dana Jung, and Tom Stockman

The Birds screens at Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Ave.- at Manchester – Maplewood, Mo 63143)  Thursday, April 2nd at 7pm. It is a benefit for Helping Kids Together (more details about this event can be found Here)

This gives us a perfect excuse to re-run this top ten list from March of 2012. Alfred Hitchcock directed 54 feature films between 1925 and 1976, and here, according to We Are Movie Geeks, are his ten best:

Frenzy

Frenzy, Hitchcock’s next to last feature film from 1972, represented a homecoming of sorts since it was the first film completely shot in his native England since his silents and early ” talkies ” in the 1930’s. By dipping into the then somewhat new territory of serial killers, he took full advantage of the new cinema freedoms and truly earned his ‘ R ‘ MPAA rating. Perhaps ole’ ” Hitch ” wanted to give those young up-and-coming »

The Philadelphia Story review – fun and wit rise like champagne bubbles

The rerelease of this utterly beguiling comedy reminds us how extraordinary Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart really were

• From Tilda Swinton to Tina Fey: who channels their inner Katharine Hepburn?

However stagily preposterous, George Cukor’s 1940 movie The Philadelphia Story, now rereleased, is also utterly beguiling, funny and romantic; it is based on the same stage play, by Philip Barry, as the 1956 musical High Society. This is the most famous example of the intriguing and now defunct prewar genre of “comedy of remarriage”, the subject of an equally interesting study by film theorist Stanley Cavell called Pursuits Of Happiness. It features three stars from the studio era who are the aristocrats, or deities, of the Hollywood golden age: Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn and James Stewart. Part of the fascination in watching this movie again is savouring those three extraordinary voices, highly imitable but entirely unique. Hepburn is the statuesque heiress Tracy Lord, »

David E. Kelley to adapt Stephen King's Mr. Mercedes as a limited series

13 January 2015 8:37 AM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

The works of Stephen King have always found a home on the small screen. Back during the heydey of the network mini-series in the late 1980s and early 1990s, several of King's sprawling works made their way to multi-night event shows. The Shining, The Tommyknockers, The Stand, and more brought dense novels that could not fit into a two hour run-time to the safe environment of ABC and other networks. In recent years, King projects like Haven and Under The Dome have enjoyed longer "event »

"Malcolm in the Middle" Turns 15 -- See the Stars Then & Now!

9 January 2015 1:15 PM, PST | TooFab | See recent TooFab news »

It's hard to believe that one of our favorite sitcoms from the 2000's turns 15 today -- "Malcolm in the Middle." Yes, we feel old too ... life is unfair. The series followed "middle" child Malcolm, played by Frankie Muniz, a high school student with a genius Iq and embarrassing family of six (later seven). With a smarty pants, a military teen, a bully and the one and only Dewey running around the house, parents Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) and Hal (Bryan Cranston), definitely had their hands full! So, what have these stars been up to in the last 15 years?Muniz continued to act after the show’s cancelation in 2006, appearing in the Syfy film "Blast Vegas" and an episode of "Don't Trust the B In Apartment 23." He has two films slated for this year: "Hot Bath an’ a Stiff Drink 2" with Robert Patrick and "Road to Capri" with Virginia Madsen and Alfred Molina. »
