Pleasantly surprised
TheLittleSongbird28 June 2023
'I Think I Do' was one of those films where this reviewer was very unsure as to whether she would like it. Have always liked comedy, and there are many great ones (some being favourites), and do like it when romance is mixed in. The premise was potentially cute and amusing, though it was also one of those it could go either way ones. Mia Kirshner and Sara Canning are watchable with the right material, though this aspect to me has always varied. So expectations were mixed.

Actually found myself pleasantly surprised by 'I Think I Do'. The premise was not as cheesy as feared in hindsight, and while not as good as the positive reviews here suggest with it falling short of great, it is much better than the too low rating indicates. It is easy to expect something terrible looking at it, having seen films with similar ratings actually being that bad or worse, but while there are far better comedies out there 'I Think I Do' was nice inoffensive fun taking it for what it is.

The acting is better than average, with Kirshner (this is my second film in a row watched of her after 'Kiss at Pine Lake' and she is much better and much more animated here), Jenny Cooper and particularly Canning giving spirited and heartfelt performances. Loved their chemistry, which sparkled in wit and charm, and it was lovely to have a female driven comedy with very strongly written female characters.

Moreover, the various relationships are on the whole done well with nothing being far fetched or too silly, and did appreciate that the film took its time exploring them. There is lots of comedy here and a lot of it is very funny and laugh out loud in quality, not subtle but the silliness doesn't go too far and there isn't anything crass or vulgar. The film is nicely made and the music fits well enough.

By all means, it is not perfect. The story is often very predictable, especially the easily telegraphed and too neat ending, and some of the pacing is a bit too leisurely. Especially when the story got thinner, which it did in the second half. Not all the writing hits either, the comedy is mostly just right apart from moments where it goes a touch too over the top. The drama however is much more variable, it can be heartfelt and it does attempt depth but for my tastes it got too sentimental and is very saccharine to sickly sweet effect towards the end.

Would have liked the male roles to be better developed, did find the writing for the male characters to be rather colourless and none of them really stand out (despite some competent acting).

Overall, above average with a lot to like but didn't make me go wow. Could have been a lot worse though considering the rating. 6/10.

Cold Feet
Prismark105 March 2015
I sometimes get asked why do I watch these Lifetime romantic comedy/dramas. The truth is my wife likes watching these films, bland, inoffensive and they past the time as its something we can watch together. Its also my penance for making her watch the latest Steven Seagal straight to DVD, Zombie Flesh Eaters and The Imitation Game!

I Think I Do is a romantic film about three sisters and commitment as one of them is jilted at the altar as her husband to be has second thoughts.

The groom tries to explain himself why he got cold feet but its too late as the bride's family give him a hard time. Obviously the film shows that life does not go according to plan but it does go for a kind of saccharine ending.

Mia Kirshner is appealing enough, its silly with a few laughs but also bland and forgettable.

Really funny!

Warning: Spoilers
I Think I Do is like a really funny, adult targeted comedy. I saw the previews for this movie and thought to myself, wow this seems like a really the female geared film. By the end of watching this, I was pleasantly surprised that there was a lot good humor involved. Some of it would be considered guy humor, but actually it would probably make women laugh a lot! There is a bit chick flick element to it between the characters, but it is such a small part of the movie that I would say it's for the most part a comedy and a little bit of a romance and chick flick thrown in. I can honestly say I enjoyed the movie. I think this was a great movie for female humor, because I have long thought that comedy was dominated by male actors and I am just waiting for some women to jump in there and start paving the way. Good job on this movie!

Better than expected!

Warning: Spoilers
The trailer for the film admittedly didn't do much for me, but I was intrigued by the concept of a female-driven film. Ultimately, I was hoping to get a few good laughs out of it. After seeing the movie, I couldn't stop talking about the film for the next couple hours. I loved it. I think it easily ranks with the other films like The Proposal and Bridesmaids, and it might even be my personal favorite. The film also has a surprising amount of depth that completely caught me off guard. It's actually a leisurely paced, character-driven comedy that takes time to develop its characters and establish the various relationships and resultant conflicts between them. Ultimately, the film ends up being quite heartfelt, despite the over-the-top antics.

hilarious fun

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is hilarious fun. Considering the talent involved, I expected something more than meets the eye after seeing the trailer. However, I was not expecting such a hysterical experience. I also loved the cast. She was perfect in this role and I hope she does more work like this. I also loved the pacing of most of the film. Several scenes had just the right amount of awkwardness or pause or "beat" that really added an extra element of hilarity. The movie goes through typical issues from the average chick flick like jealousy, insecurities, narcissism, self-doubt, self-pity, self-destruction you name it but it deals with those is a more honest, realistic non sugar-coated way that was refreshing and smart from the norm and raises the bar so high for chick flicks and comedies in general that I personally can't see any comedy this year or in the future surpassing its comedy greatness.
