EVERYTHING i hoped for!!
and_mikkelsen11 October 2022
Holy... WHAT an amazing first episode! I have been waiting over a year for this and it was everything i could have hoped for and more!!

This episode offered a great introduction to our main character whom you connect with really fast!

Animation and visuals though were phenomenal! Honestly it looked like a movie at times! Great soundtrack and the Chainsaw sound effects was Perfect! Lots of gore and blood and very clear that there is no censorship! Perhaps one of the most violent episodes of anime i have seen along with Tokyo Ghoul, Cyberpunk edgerunners and AOT!

Opening and ending was EPIC!! I Think I heard both of them multiple times! Cant wait for the other 11 endings! Lets have that Chainsaw man album!

Big applause for everyone involved! All the love and dedication shines through already!

Great Opening Episode!
rxckne12 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
For the past couple of months, I've heard a lot about this show from the hype of the trailers to the animation that was teased from Mappa. I was really surprised to see how much hype it gained from the jump, seeing that the trailers were doing numbers that even the Attack On Titan Final Season we're doing. I assumed there were many fans of the Manga and that was what possibly originated the hype as well. So I decided to watch a YouTube video on the author, Tatsuki Fujimoto, and get a better look at some of his other work. (Credit to YouTuber Gigguk on the video, I highly recommend his channel if you like Anime) And after seeing a hint of Fujimoto's work in the manga Fire Punch, I was immediately sold on him & his potential with this show.

Episode 1 gives you the bare necessities of the main character, Denji, and his Chainsaw devil dog, Pochita. After the death of Denji's father, he is forced to find a way to make up for his fathers unpaid debts or else he will die. After saving his devil dog by giving it some of his blood, he decides to make a deal with the devil to team up and work together to try and survive and pay off his debts. But Denji would continue to struggle, having to even sell parts of himself to try and stay afloat in this world. Wanting to accomplish his dream of simply having a normal life, he looks to be very far from it. Denji would then be called to hunt down a devil in the middle of the night, when he's then caught with the revelation that the man he was working for made a deal with a devil himself, wanting demonic power. Denji would get stabbed in the back, along with his dog Pochita, and he's left trying to run away from the zombies chasing him. As the zombies were given a small amount of demonic power from the man who is the zombie devil himself, a bleeding out Denji is eventually caught and viciously murdered by these zombies, as well as Pochita, and both are thrown into a dumpster. In the dumpster, we see Denji's blood slowly flow down into Pochita's mouth. Knowing that he could die someday, Denji told Pochita that in the event that he dies, he wants Pochita to have his body and carry out his own dream of living a normal life. Instead, Pochita's heart is given to Denji, as Pochita tells him to show them both the dream that he wanted to live. Pochita then becomes one with Denji, creating Chainsaw man. The Chainsaw man then goes on to murder the Zombie Devil as well as all of the zombies that were in the building in an epic climax to the episode that showed some of the amazing animation expected from Mappa. The closing scene shows the aftermath of these events, and gave us a small introduction to the characters that are expected to be present for the rest of the season, as Denji is offered a deal to live.

Overall Thoughts on the first episode, I really enjoyed the introduction to Denji's character and how he would become Chainsaw Man. Even though it is a formula we've seen in many anime's before (being on near rock bottom in the world and trying to climb up and survive) I think it's done well in this instance, and him becoming one with his Chainsaw Devil Dog I think was done very well. Making yet another deal with a devil, but finding out that the devil he formed a bond with didn't take over his body, but instead gave him a heart to go and live out his dream of living a normal life. What really stole the show for me in this first episode though was the animation. I think it's really unique and showed potential for a lot of amazing fight scenes that are expected to come in the near future. I bet a lot of people will find a way to complain about CGI (as many did with AOT and other shows) but personally I don't have a problem with it. Yes there are Anime's that try to use CGI and it doesn't turn out well, but I don't think it's a problem at all here and I don't intend to find a way to complain about it as people try to do. My one worry though in the long run is that Mappa might be overworked due to the large workload they might be getting with AOT, Jujutsu Kaisen, Vinland Saga & maybe even others. I remember that there were workers at Mappa being forced to stay at work for days for AOT and I hope that with all of these anime's coming there way that it won't become too much for them to the point where they can't give it their best on a particular show, including Chainsaw Man.

But nonetheless, great opening episode, and I'm excited to see what this anime brings in the long run.

Final Episode Rating - 9.0.

A solid start for the anime
danialshakeel11 October 2022
Well I am an anime only for chainsaw man ..,and I had heard a lot of things about the manga to be great and unique and a joyride ....and the hype is also unreal ...and I can say that the first ep really was brilliant (well cannot comment on the story bcz it's only the first ep ) and broke the barriers of expectations....the music was cool and well suited to every shot...the animation was smooth crisp and brilliant...one most beautiful thing was the amount of detail they put on the backgrounds,.the characters walking..it was just so in the flow And then is the matter of cgi...well it was very great for anime standards but kinda noticeable..it kinda put me off for a bit ...but then also the director made full use of cgi and we get some crazy shots..mostly like cinematic shots....so overall it's a great start...

Peak Fiction
richardrsmartin11 October 2022
Ever since i was a boy I've yearned for the sweet embrace of death, but alas society says no.

BUT NO MORE! This anime has reinvigorated my love for life. WE LOVE CHAINSAW! WE LOVE MAKIMA!

The animation and scenery is so peak tears dripped from my eyes at every panel. The only downside would be my personal hatred for CGI but even it cannot do this masterpiece dirty. The characters are so well done I'm on the edge of my seat at every word spoken by my lord and saviour pochita (best girl).

I cant wait for the next episode and every day without it is full of bleak horror. LOVE, LOVE, CHAINSAW!.

Animation Upgrade. Cinematography and Gore
karmankarmayank11 October 2022
So finally the most anticipated anime ever has aired! So was the hype and the wait worth? Totally yes! It was. Let's talk about th animation first. The animation was flawless, jaw dropping and amazing at the same time. Mappa is killing it. It was well adapted and the animation was pleasing to the eyes. The cinematography and colours were perfectly used for mature themes and gore. Even the story and pacing was well and balanced. The most thing that Iiked about this episode was the colour pallet and mature themes. It's something that I've never seen in an anime. Totally enjoyed it and loved it. Hoping to see more..

The Chainsaw Man is finally here
Nagitokomeda11 October 2022
This long-awaited anime begins with an incredible episode. We get so much fantastic character work, frantic action and emotional beats squeezed into this single episode. The pacing here is absolutley perfect; moving things along swiftly while giving us enough time to get to know Denji, Poochita and all the other important players.

While the writing is great, its the animation that stands out. Everything about this episode looks AMAZING. Seriously, the animation during the action scenes is on another level. Its clear how much time and passion has gone into this series and how they plan on it becoming a sensation.

After this episode, I'm excited to see what's next for our characters and who else we will meet.

Literally NAILED the PREMISE!
animeyugenyt12 October 2022
First off this isn't going to be a show for everyone. I saw someone ask, "it's about a guy with a chainsaw what's so special about it?". Yeah, that's true, but then again Naruto is about a guy with a fox, and One Piece is about a guy who stretches like rubber and we know how good those shows turned out to be.

Don't judge an anime by the premise.

For the manga readers this episode was a big treat. No matter what criticisms you have for MAPPA one thing you know is how well they portray the TONE of the show. CSM needs that half fun, half dark sort of tone, and I think MAPPA nailed it. Everything from the color palette, to the openings, endings, and soundtracks pretty much matched the whole tone of the story.

And the OP is a banger, ending is a banger and whoever chose the artists and music for this show deserves a noble prize.

I honestly didn't feel bad about the CGI. Except for that one wonky shot in the opening where a chainsaw comes out of Denji's head, the others were perfectly fine. I mean, come on people, this is about a guy who has a chainsaw in his head. The animators can't draw the animation of the chainsaw in EVERY single frame.

I always had doubts about Makima's voice actress, but I think I got over it. Sure, she sounds a bit young, but I still think she managed to give that creepy seductive tone the character needs.

Overall, 10/10 episode. Ignore the haters, the OP just hit #2 on trending, and the ending is #6 on trending in YouTube. This shows how popular this show is. And the more popular an anime is, the more hate it is going to get.

So ignore the haters, and watch this masterpiece for yourself.

The best is yet to come...
dennisfujifilm12 October 2022
After seeing the first chapter of the manga adapted faithfully, panel by panel, I'm convinced studio MAPPA has something special cooked for us Chainsawfolk. Even though there are a lot among us who are suspicious of the use of CGI in the show but personally, I didn't really find it all that bad. Denji's neck, while transformed, does look a bit weird, that I will admit. Besides that, this was a perfect episode, no flaws in pacing.

And people, who are upset about Makima's voice actor - I don't get your obsession with your own head-canon.

To wrap it all up with a bow on top, GIVE IT A FEW EPISODES.

Not MID
bhagatmader15 October 2022
The concept of a human turning into chainsaw and killing is already cool enough but when it's backed up by realism and human emotions it's becomes a class of it's own.

Apart from seeing some manga panels. I don't know anything about this series but I have hopes it thrives.

In midsts of all this trash anime going on from past few years with good stories I hope this one actually will be a relief.

It actually summed up Denji's life and how he became a chainsaw man pretty accurately.

That chain dog? Pochito man so cute.

I was thinking denji will not die. Lmao He was in trash 💀

It just an overkill.

Final verdict: Far from Mid.

Here we go

Warning: Spoilers
Wow what a phenomenal series premiere. First off I just want to thank mappa for not holding back on anything in this episode. Of course a show called chainsaw man is going to have blood and gore and what not but they really go into it in this first episode. That being said was not expecting to go through so many dark themes in the span of 25 minutes because wow this may be one of the darkest premier episodes in any show I've ever seen. Really love the OST too every scene had amazing sound design and the episode itself was incredibly paced, those 25 minutes went by incredibly fast. With mappa known as adapting the source material of their shows quite well then this show will be a contender for top anime of the year with only 12 episodes no less.

The wait is finally over!
hollymetz-7251517 October 2022
I've been anticipating the release of the Chainsaw Man anime for well over a year now... and it was worth the wait! I really enjoyed the first episode. I know some people were turned off by the 3D, but I can forgive it. It's not perfect, but I'm also not that picky I guess? I think the first episode was a great kick-off for the show. I felt like it did the manga justice and I couldn't have hoped for more than that. I feel like the voice acting was perfect even though I know some people were worried about Makima's voice. Music was solid too. My only complaint might be that the mixing made it hard to hear at times, but that's true for a lot of media in my experience. Truly excited for the next episode!

It's okay
pepepains13 October 2022
It has an okay start, nothing too special, nothing too insane, feels like it's a little overhyped through Youtube and Manga fans, which is probably why they will kill downvote me but the whole character premise reeks of Darling in the franxx vibes to me. Overall very typical shonen design, almost rushed like they gave the main character a backstory and concluded it in the very same episode just so they could establish what I expect to be the romance.

So far this could basically be Tokyo Ghoul right now.

I just can't see the whole 'It's a game changer' that everyone keep repeating. Subject to change.

Overhyped anime that caused disappointment.
sandogang-108908 November 2022
Overhyped anime that cause this anime a high expectations, but unfortunately its start with disappointment because of bad CGI and how mappa do their job in animating this anime due to many anime works in their office. In terms of action anime this is not the kind of anime that surpass other actions anime like JJK, AOT etc, but its a good anime the only flaw of this kind of anime is just the plot compared to other anime like this their plot is good and unfortunately the CSM is not, and also the pacing of this anime is slow for me this anime only need 2 season because it not interesting watching it longer, the more season you watch this anime the more you got bored especially if you are only a ordinary viewer, even manga feels bad also.

It's finally here.
johnharrymad18 October 2022
It's been a pretty long time since people heard about this anime and boy oh boy was it awaited by all of us. And it did deliver in its first episode. We still have so much more to but the pilot episode is just what we need to get us going with this. I won't spoil a thing but damn this is Jujutsu Kaisen all over again and it is done just as brilliantly. Done so with even darker and even more gory scenes as it seems. We have to wait and see but I also feel like the story will be ever better.

It's a great month this one people. Boku no Hero Academia, Mob Psycho 100 and now this? Get me more episodes now.

Nothing can be perfect but this to me is as close as it gets for an anime. I don't really know where I can take points off other than maybe the cg but even that is done very well.

Bad Mix with Sound Effects, hope they fix it!
candycue2319 October 2022
Animation 10/10 - it's best quality of animation i ever seen in a Tv show, every single frame have detail, it's pure perfection, even blood, water, smoke, dust effects are perfect!!! The cgi blend so well!

Plot 9/10 - A great first episode to starts the journey, fascinating world view and intensely realistic dark atmosphere, it really attracts a large number of non-anime fans to watch, and no annoying or cringe character so far.

SFX and OST 5/10 The Op/Ed are great, the ost are ok ,but the sound mix really ruined the fight scene in secend half of the episode, bad ost choise just being honest, that rock music cannot be combined with animation, and ost volume is too loud caused the villain's voice and all sound effects to be so unclear, just watch it again and you will noticed what im saying.

This is just my personal opinion.

What a difference a tone makes
Groverdox24 October 2023
It's funny how similar a lot of anime are, and also how much of a difference the choice of tone can make with material that is very similar.

Case in point: "Chainsaw Man" and "Jujutsu Kaisen" both came out around the same time. They're both about teenagers who survive an attempt on their lives through sacrifice, and then become possessed with devils. They're both set in a world where supernatural beings co-exist with humans and are born out of negative human emotion. What's more, nobody seems too bothered about this, the shows treat it as an afterthought.

With "Chainsaw Man", though, the tone is more serious and introspective, and it got my attention right away, when "Jujutsu Kaisen" never really did.

The show is, of course, still very weird, and I wasn't sure what was going on a lot of the time. That's one of anime's bugbears.

Luckily, this one has none of the irritating attempts at humour that so many other anime have, including "Jujutsu Kaisen".

I'm going to keep watching it.

A good enjoyable chapter
poolxaxd11 October 2022
To be honest, it's not a great start, but it's not crap either.

The animation has moments in which some clear declines can be noticed as well as the use of the well-known CGI, but still visually with the scenery and character design it is really nice to see even for those who have not read the manga. At the time (although with its popularity I highly doubt they haven't read it or at least known it), a clear example of this is the change in Denji's hair and eyes when he "fused" with Pochita; this time I noticed a difference with the manga at least for me On another separate point that makes me very happy is that they have chosen a cast of dubbing actors not so well known/newbies since the usual voices in which they practically hire the same seiyuus for the same roles of generic characters are boring although it is also something fundamental that they have to improve

7/10

I know it can get better with time, although it will be hard with only 12 caps this season, but I am more than sure that MAPPA will do the right thing to take advantage of how good the Chainsaw Man manga is and maybe make it become as popular as it is. It was. At that time KnY even for those who had never touched a manga or even an anime in their life (although it still is).

Chinsaw man is trach and bad
abdnacerakouze12 October 2022
Frankly, I did not like the anime because of the tension and lack of literature and the tension in excess of the exaggerated fanservice, and from the side of the hero, I see him as a rubbish hero whose only dream is to become a dog for rubbish like him and to touch that girl's nonsense. Nor from the studio side, and the simplest example of anime that succeeded without porn and respected our minds and gave us a wonderful, empty story is the attack of the giants Such absurd acts should not be promoted. Why do we not find purposeful anime that have a higher goal and keep pace with our era and the darkness that our world suffers from, but if you find these works, they are few.
