Storyline

Safa Habimana, is an immigrant in Britain who is struggling to make ends meet, with the hope that one day, she and her teenage son will reunite with her husband. On the other hand, her son Ayyash, a troubled young Muslim with lots of time in his hands, has no interest in anything except how to spend the time with his friends and make easy money. An occurrence caused by bad luck and even worse timing, will bring the Police on his doorstep forcing Safa to take drastic measures. So she sets up an appointment with Nat, a Jewish baker for whom she works for asking him to take Ayyash as an apprentice. Beginnings are usually hard at first, but as time moves on, business flourish and customers rush in, a strong bond will develop between the two men, unbeknownst to them that problems are just around the corner. Goofs

There is a sign in the bakery that says, "All our goods are baked on premises as yosan". Although the word "yosan" is supposed to be transliteration of a Hebrew word, it is still misspelled. The word is commonly spelled "yoshon", which in Jewish law refers to when certain types of grains are planted and take root in relation to the calendar year. See more »

Endearing and heartfelt movie that has a great meaning
4 February 2015 | by (Atlanta Georgia) – See all my reviews

DOUGH is a 'dramedy' with a big heart, dealing with the tension between Jews and Muslims, who despite their cultural differences have many shared values. It involves a young Muslim and the unlikely friendship he develops with an older Jewish baker. The story is about how the small baker is fighting a loosing battle for survival against a corporate giant and how the young boy tries to help him save the bakery. David versus Goliath. It has laugh out loud lines that all ages will find humorous. Jonathan Pryce(the baker) and Jerome Holder(the boy) are excellent and their chemistry is so believable you will find yourself cheering them on. I saw it at The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival and LOVED IT!
