Actress Lauren Ash is a thief. Before you call the cops, it’s scenes that this “Not Dead Yet” star is stealing. Every scene she is in — whether on this ABC sitcom or her last one, NBC’s “Superstore” — she owns. And rightfully so. Her privileged, pretentious Lexi has some daddy issues to sort out in order to break through that haughty shell of hers.
In this week’s “Not Dead Yet,” Ash’s Lexi conducts the employees’ yearly performance review at the SoCal Independent, revealing that she’s not as uncaring as many (aka most) people think she is. And when it comes to the bad personal relationship habits she has learned from her father, well, sometimes they work like magic — when she wants to get back at him.
“Lexi’s father continually and consistently lets her down. I think it’s probably the most significant relationship in her life,...

Michael Lehrer, a comedian and improv actor best known for his work in ‘ Second City,’ and ‘Masters of the Internet,’ has died with the assistance of a doctor following a years-long battle with Als. He was 44.
His girlfriend and caretaker, Colette Montague, told the Chicago Sun-Times, “Michael died with dignity on his own terms. He was not suicidal at all. … Medical aid in dying was the hardest decision he ever made.”
Despite being diagnosed with Als, the comedian and sketch artist continued to perform at clubs while confined to a wheelchair. His bits included jokes about his life and his battle with the neurodegenerative disease.
Lehrer was a regular on ‘Kill Tony,’ a live comedy podcast based in Austin, Texas where Joe Rogan and Ron White often appeared. Rogan paid his respects to Lehrer in an Instagram post.

Fans of the adult sci-fi animated series “Inside Job” are railing on Netflix for cancelling the series after one season, despite having been ordered for a Season 2. The cancellation was confirmed by series creator Shion Takeuchi on Twitter Sunday.
“Over the years, these characters have become real people to me, and I am devastated not to be able to watch them grow up,” Takeuchi wrote. “Reagan and Brett deserved to get their ending and finally find happiness. And I would have loved to been able to share what was in store with you all.”
Takeuchi also addressed fans directly, writing: “To everyone who watched, thank you for coming along on the ride. Even though I’m sad, it helps to know that there’s people out there who cared just as much about these characters as me.”

Last month at CinemaCon, animation legends Phil Lord and Chris Miller showed off a work-in-progress preview of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” noting that it is the first Hollywood animated feature to have an animation staff of over 1,000 people working on its ambitious blend of comic book palettes and designs.
But as work on this sequel to an acclaimed Oscar winner continues, animation workers are organizing in Hollywood’s latest major labor push. For the past several months, IATSE Local 839, also known as The Animation Guild, has been in talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers on a new contract; and similar to its live-action counterparts at IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees), the pandemic has galvanized animators to push for what they call a “New Deal for Animation.”

Chicago – Jon Barinholtz keeps on rolling. After having wrapped a six season run on NBC-tv’s “Superstore” portraying Marcus, he landed another role – with the same sitcom creator (Justin Spitzer) and network – as car industry executive Westey Payne in “American Auto,” which premiered last month. And all this as he co-created “Chicago Party Aunt” for Netflix.
As opposed to to “Superstore,” where the focus was on the store level employees, “American Auto” is a workplace comedy that takes place in the executive suite. Ana Gasteyer (“Saturday Night Live”) portrays Katherine, a hard charging just-appointed CEO of Payne Motors. Barinholtz as Wesley Payne is part of the family who owns the company, and they interact with put upon VP Sadie (Harriet Dyer), Dori (X Mayo), Cyrus (Michael Benjamin Washington) and newly promoted Jack (Tye White). The quick-witted sitcom takes place as the company is in transition.

“History of the World, Part I” is finally getting a Part II, with Hulu ordering a variety series followup to the classic Mel Brooks comedy film, Variety has learned exclusively.
“History of the World, Part II” is described as a sequel to the 1981 film. The film was made up of segments set during different periods of world history. Among those was the Stone Age, Ancient Rome, and the French Revolution. Like most of Brooks’ work, it also featured musical numbers, including one about the Spanish Inquisition and, of course, “Jews in Space.”
Brooks is a writer and executive producer on the series along with Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, Ike Barinholtz, David Stassen and Kevin Salter. There is no word yet on which world events the series will cover. Hulu has ordered eight episodes of the show. The writers room is beginning in October with production slated to begin in Spring...

Chicago – The funny meter of Netflix went off the scale last week, as the animated series “Chicago Party Aunt” made its debut on September 17th. What began as a Twitter account by comic actor Chris Witaske (who also provides his voice talent) has morphed into the cartoon adventures of Aunt Diane Dumbowski, her nephew Daniel, and an array of familiar Chicago-isms and characters.
The series was created by Witaske, veteran Chicago improv artist Katie Rich and actor/Chicago native Jon Barinholtz (Katie and Jon also character voices). Jon’s brother, prominent comic actor Ike Barinholtz, also serves as executive producer and voice talent. Diane Dumbrowski is voiced by veteran improv star, actress Lauren Ash, and her nephew Daniel is vocally portrayed by Broadway actor Rory O’Malley.

There’s no joke too obvious for Diane, aka the “Chicago Party Aunt,” to make with a holler and hefty wink. In the Netflix animated show adapted from Chris Witaske’s Twitter account, Diane (Lauren Ash) is just as loud, coarse and unapologetic as the tweets that inspired her. The closest she gets to showing another layer is her general annoyance with the gentrification that keeps taking over her favorite Chicago haunts. Otherwise, she’s just happy to party, give her beloved nephew Daniel (Rory O’Malley) bad advice, and defend her dirtbag way of life to the death. They eat Chicago food, have wacky misadventures, flirt with learning a life lesson, wash, rinse, repeat. If anyone can count on Diane for anything, it’s finding the crudest, most inevitable punchline for any situation. By the time she and Daniel hit up a barbecued ribs food festival, you can practically mouth...

Don’t know if you’ve heard but Netflix is doing pretty well with their local language releases. Now, with its list of new releases for September 2021, Netflix is leading with one of its biggest international hits.
Season 5 of the worldwide smash Money Heist is set to premiere its first half on Sept. 3.
