Mr. Evans, the head of the Waverly Place Merchants Association, wants the Russo's haunted house to be scarier. In what can be seen as an inside joke, Mr. Evans is played by Daniel Roebuck, who's a lifelong collector of Halloween and horror props, masks and memorabilia. With his friend and fellow collector, actor Bob Burns, Roebuck hosts a documentary entitled Halloween... The Happy Haunting of America! (1997); portrays the character of Dr. Shocker at various events (seen on the documentary's DVD release); and has even participated in Burns' own backyard haunted house/Halloween shows usually based on classic science fiction and horror films and featuring actual props from the movies.
