Cartel Land, the Oscar and BAFTA-nominated documentary about two vigilante groups who tackle murderous Mexican drug cartels, has topped the doc charts in Argentina, Columbia, Mexico and Paraguay simultaneously on iTunes.
Dogwoof, the film’s international sales agent and UK distributor, launched the film on iTunes on Jan 15 across 17 Latin American countries - including Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Columbia, Paraguay, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia and Venezuela.
Cartel Land director Matthew Heineman said: “It was always incredibly important to me that the film reach audiences throughout Latin America, especially Mexico.
“I made Cartel Land to give voice to those trapped by senseless cycles of violence, suffering and corruption. I’m grateful for the response we’ve received thus far and I hope that - through these new distribution channels - we will continue the conversation.”

The war on drugs continues to be one of society's greatest battles, and the new documentary Cartel Land takes viewers to the frontlines of the issue. "There's an imaginary line out there between right and wrong, good and evil," says a voice of a vigilante in the trailer. "I believe what I am doing is good and what I am standing up against is evil." The trailer is as tense as can be, with the filmmakers capturing an incredible amount of real-life footage - hard to believe that this level of intensity was featured in less than three minutes of footage. Just imagine how the actual documentary will be. Cartel Land, from director Matthew Heineman (Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare, Our Time) and executive producer Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) will be in select theaters on July 3 from The Orchard. yt id="ZoSFSiLgbdI" width...

Dogwoof acquires international rights for A&E Indiefilms’ Sundance-winning Cartel Land.
Dogwoof has secured international rights to Matthew Heineman’s documentary Cartel Land, which picked up two prizes at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and will be pushing the title at Berlin’s European Film Market (Efm) (Feb 5-13).
Anna Godas, CEO of Dogwoof brokered the deal with Molly Thompson of A&E IndieFilms and producer Tom Yellin of The Documentary Group.
Godas described the film as “one of the most chilling films shot about the drug wars”.
Dogwoof will handle all international sales across all platforms, including UK distribution later in 2015.
The documentary tells the true story of two very different vigilante groups that have formed to combat the ruthless Mexican drug cartels.
Director Heineman (Escape Fire, Our Time) profiles one group from each side of the Us-Mexican border; in America the Arizona Border Recon patrol a 52-mile desert stretch to halt the drug wars...

Matthew Heineman learned the "Truth is stranger than fiction" maxim while traveling across America in an Rv with friends. They were out to discover what made their generation tick; with no formal training they began The Young Americans Project and interviewed a spectrum of American youth (this later became his first film "Our Time"). He fell hard for filmmaking; "I loved the bond and trust that was quickly formed between my subjects and me. I loved the unpredictable." Now, Heineman and his co-director Susan Froemke want to transcend the misinformation about the countries' healthcare woes. Everyone has been affected, but there is still a significant lack of clarify. "Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare" (Us Documentary) addresses what might be done to create a sustainable healthcare system for the future and hopes to inspire people to take control of their health and push for change once they understand the preserve.

I've been really curious about "Our Time," a documentary directed by Matt Heineman and Matt Wiggins about four recent college grads traveling the country in a quest to understand it. I have yet to watch the movie, which premiered on the Documentary Channel last night, but there will be other opportunities: It's currently available on Amazon and making its way to other VOD platforms soon. In the meantime, I've asked my friend and current Columbia University doctorate candidate Ryan Hagen, who contributed some writing to "Our Time," for his brief thoughts on the project. Update: "Our Time" will receive on…...
