Trailer for Tense Sundance Doc 'Cartel Land,' From Exec. Producer Kathryn Bigelow

The war on drugs continues to be one of society's greatest battles, and the new documentary Cartel Land takes viewers to the frontlines of the issue. "There's an imaginary line out there between right and wrong, good and evil," says a voice of a vigilante in the trailer. "I believe what I am doing is good and what I am standing up against is evil." The trailer is as tense as can be, with the filmmakers capturing an incredible amount of real-life footage - hard to believe that this level of intensity was featured in less than three minutes of footage. Just imagine how the actual documentary will be. Cartel Land, from director Matthew Heineman (Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare, Our Time) and executive producer Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) will be in select theaters on July 3 from The Orchard. yt id="ZoSFSiLgbdI" width »

Cartel Land Trailer Teases Incredibly Intense, Unsettling Documentary

3 June 2015 1:35 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

The Orchard has released the first trailer for director Matthew Heineman’s (Our Time) stunning documentary Cartel Land. Executive produced by Kathryn Bigelow, the film chronicles the battle against Mexican drug cartels by two vigilante groups on opposite sides of the border: the Arizona Border Recon in the U.S., and a rebel uprising group in the Mexican state of Michoacán. I caught the film at Sundance and it is a profound, deeply disturbing, and unbelievably intense documentary tackling an issue that’s all too current. Both vigilante groups share idealistic goals for bringing these drug cartels down, but when a power vacuum occurs, does it simply breed more—and potentially worse—violence and corruption? That’s one of the questions at the center of this film, which I'd go so far as to consider essential viewing. Check out the Cartel Land trailer below, via Apple, and click here to read my review. »

Dogwoof takes Sundance winner Cartel Land

Dogwoof acquires international rights for A&E Indiefilms’ Sundance-winning Cartel Land.

Dogwoof has secured international rights to Matthew Heineman’s documentary Cartel Land, which picked up two prizes at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and will be pushing the title at Berlin’s European Film Market (Efm) (Feb 5-13).

Anna Godas, CEO of Dogwoof brokered the deal with Molly Thompson of A&E IndieFilms and producer Tom Yellin of The Documentary Group.

Godas described the film as “one of the most chilling films shot about the drug wars”.

Dogwoof will handle all international sales across all platforms, including UK distribution later in 2015.

The documentary tells the true story of two very different vigilante groups that have formed to combat the ruthless Mexican drug cartels.
