Hard to like...
kingsx_6412 October 2021
Scene; Hope outside, walks towards door.

Girl (16 to 18?) opens door from inside.

Holds door open for Hope.

Does Hope say thank you? No Does she maybe give a nod? No Don't like the CRM? Fine.

Why take it out on a girl who she's never seen?

Lack of common courtesy shows who you are.

Saw her on talking dead. Omg, I've met tree frogs with more personality.

When one of the leads is hard to like, you probably aren't going to like the show.

Hope/Alexa Mansour; Teen angst, followed by some teen angst, and to mix it up a little, she adds a little teen angst.

Don't think the casting director should ever work again. I don't mind the 3 dudes, but the 3 girls?

Wow, just bad.... The community is semi entertaining.

Silas gets a new job.. Poker thing was kinda cool/funny.

"Foothold" delves into the tensions in the characters' relationships and sets goals for most of them - or at least outlines what they will do to fulfill their roles
fernandoschiavi9 May 2024
Iris, Felix and Will capture a walker and dress it up as Will to make it appear as if Will and the soldier had killed each other; Iris shares her belief that the CRM had destroyed their home, something that Will agrees with. The CRM searches the Perimeter for the group, leading to a tense moment before the bodies are found and the CRM is successfully fooled; Iris and Felix later let out their aggression by eliminating a herd together.

At the research facility, Hope takes notes on the security and is given a tour by Lyla who reveals that their research is aimed at both discovering what causes the undead and finding a way to eliminate the ones that already exist, a long-term plan expected to occur over generations. Hope befriends a boy named Mason while Leo, having learned about the CRM's manipulations towards his daughters, demands that the CRM bring him Iris and Felix. Hope hesitates to share the truth with her father while Lyla is shown reporting on Hope and Leo to Kublek. Silas is taken to work at a CRM culling facility run by Dennis Graham where he, Webb, Grady and Tiga work to clear New York of the undead; Dennis is revealed to be Huck's husband.

The highly anticipated moment arrived for those watching World Beyond: a glimpse inside the organization's secret facilities that sheds some light on the plans and experiments being conducted there. Led by Dr. Lyla (Natalie Gold), Hope (Alexa Mansour) is introduced to some of the CRM's key experiments aimed at finding humanity's salvation. Hope also meets Mason (Will Meyers), a clever young man who shows potential as a romantic interest for her.

While we know this is just scratching the surface of the experiments being conducted there - as we have access to the tests Lyla performs on "pre-dead" subjects - the visit serves to make Hope slightly more hopeful - pun intended - about her role in all of this, despite her lack of trust in the organization. Wouldn't it have been more interesting to reignite Hope's faith in humanity simply by taking her on a visit like this earlier instead of throwing her into the apocalypse chaos (twice)?

Meanwhile, Iris (Aliyah Royale), Felix (Nico Tortorella), and Will (Jelani Alladin) must deal with the mess caused by Iris killing one of the CRM soldiers, leading to great tension within the Perimeter. Things escalate with the arrival of Elizabeth (Julia Ormond), who comes to the community in search of her missing soldier.

During this visit, we see that Elizabeth and Indira (Anna Khaja) have a relationship that goes beyond "work." Indira knows that Huck (Annet Mahendru) is the lieutenant's daughter, something that is not widely known by either of them, implying a certain level of closeness between the two. Additionally, it's interesting to see how Elizabeth reacts to the community's artwork, which slightly humanizes her character.

The Perimeter plot in this episode was slow, serving only to further direct its characters toward revenge against Elizabeth and her soldiers, as well as Iris' deduction about what actually happened in Omaha.

Lastly, we see what happened to Silas (Hal Cumpston), who, after being captured by the CRM in "In This Life," the last episode of the first season, is being taken somewhere by the soldier Dennis (Max Osinski). We later find out that Silas is in one of the seven facilities responsible for "cleaning up" the empties and trying to control their spread.

With Dennis, we are introduced to three other teenage characters who will likely help Silas in the future. Dennis, it is worth noting, has a photo with Huck in which they are both wearing army clothes. When introducing the character in interviews, Dennis is described as "someone who was once a dedicated soldier and is now trying to make things right." We will likely have new revelations about Huck's past soon.

Elizabeth's relationship with Leo (Joe Holt) - who demands that Iris and Felix also be taken to the CRM - is deteriorating, even leading Leo to threaten to stop working on the experiments. We see the pressure on the lieutenant increasing, and we know she will spare no effort to do what needs to be done, so it's possible that all this pressure will lead to a major internal war.

Although it's a slower episode than usual, "Foothold" delves into the tensions in the characters' relationships and sets goals for most of them - or at least outlines what they will do to fulfill their roles. However, with only a few episodes left until the conclusion of the series, TWD: World Beyond needs to be more agile if it wants to present something of real influence within The Walking Dead's extended universe.

So freaking boring
marttito244 March 2022
My God the actress that plays Iris is so freaking bad, and apparently she's a stone cold killer and an expert Bowman now. And Silas! How the hell did he get fatter during a zombie apocalypse when food is scarce. And why the hell does everybody look like they came out a salon, everybody's too damn clean. In fear and TWD The characters are dirty and grimy. And OMG the freaking acting is horrendous! It's not a good thing when I want all the protagonist to die, starting with annoying iris.

Hot garbage
jonny393910 October 2021
I fast forward through this show looking for anything relevant to the other series, and there's nothing of value. There is nothing to make me think that these poorly written weak characters could survive camping in the bush for a week let alone this situation. Please cancel this show before the destroy the genre.

Best episode in the show
dayelme8 October 2021
This episode is the best one in this show so far I think we all can agree that season 2 is way better than 1 but still it's not enough it shut be better but this episode is making me look forward for the rest of the season as we dig into the CRM the show gets better I hope the writers understand that.

Could've been great if they showed Jadis like they teased
revieweranarchy755 October 2021
Seeing the CRM was actually really neat and Hopes story line is getting really interesting. Silas even has improved a lot from season 1...

But, the reason i'm giving it a 1 (i know it's extreme it probably deserves at least a 6-7) is because Iris is just unbelievably unbelievable. The actress simply cannot act to par like her co-stars and every time my friends and I watch her scenes, we either cringe or have to fast forward through her scenes because she takes the viewer out of the episode with the dullness of her acting.

Interesting lore, bad writing.
frankiesilver-9183622 June 2022
This was an interesting episode. They are delving deep into the science of TWD and exploring how to get rid of the walkers and how they originated. I don't think they'll ever really find a cure but I'm curious to see what they accomplish.

The episode was just a big info dump into the lore of the bigger universe.

Along with the info on how the CRM is working towards getting rid of the walkers we also learn just how much of New York they control and how grand scale they really are.

Seeing more of the Perimeter is also really cool, it gives me Broke Jaw Ranch vibes from Fear TWD Season 3. It's a good contrast to the much more city-like Civic Republic.

Still, the writing of the show is really weak. They talk about things from the first season and I'm reminded just how stupid the different storylines about the teens were.

I hope the rest of the season is good, but they need to focus less on the kids and more on the military for that to happen.

WHAT IF: the title didn't say the walking dead....
grlym-4684918 October 2021
I think the answer would be one if the following

The show had potential, almost like the walking dead but without suspense and enough info on characters to care about them

Or

What show are you talking about? Never heard of it

Or

It's ok in a COVID tv show scale

This episode hinted to greatness but was so boring. What happened between story boards to church hat we see to make it so bad. But like I said above. It's TWD,...so I'll prop ably keep watching when the dvr is empty if all the better shows.

IRIS
meltingmel26 May 2023
Like so many of the reviewers on here - we can all see the problem is Iris. Or the actress that plays her. I have no idea how she's an actress -not only is she barely Disney channel level but she HAS to be a nepo baby or have really good connections. It's so hard to fathom she's on a huge franchise like this. And she's honestly ruining the show. Another reviewer stated they cringe so hard at her scenes or have to fast forward through. I relate SO MUCH. And I love Disney and the CW - but this chick needs to stop. Honestly in the original TWD show this girl would have been dead already 100 times over. They keep trying to sell she's a badass and she's just not.

And yes. She cannot act to save her life. I saw a tiny improvement the second half of last season - but now? The cringe is back.

I'm sure the young woman is very nice. But she needs new direction and maybe some acting classes. I can tell the show runners want to keep her on and that's so annoying. I just want her to be killed already and let's move on. Its like FTWD and World Beyond are too scared to kill anyone off.
