PRODUCTION IN NUMBERS
9 MONTHS OF WORK to organize the production
33 DAYS OF SHOOTING at the Baltic Sea in the picturesque part of the Polish coast
100% OF SHOOTING IN OUTDOOR LOCATIONS (including in the high sea); filmmakers often had to manage the elements on the set, struggling with nature (cold water and tough weather conditions - rain and wind)
+60 PEOPLE from all over the world helped create the soundtrack
2 DAYS of underwater shooting at the "Koparki" Diving Marina Centre and a specially designed underwater set with seaweed planted to imitate the seabed
LOCATION
A LOCATION WHICH DOES NOT EXIST ANY MORE DIFFICULT ACCESS TO THE LOCATION AND EXTENDED LOGISTICS
Because of STORMS in December 2021 and January 2022 cliffs slid down and an entirely new landscape emerged. Access roads to the location were cut off and no one would be able to do a similar production in the same location. Abrasion has been progressing on coastal cliffs, causing them to recede inland by 20% per year. Thanks to the spatial documentation, future generations will have the chance to know the natural landscape of Poland, which may soon disappear.
DIFFICULT ACCESS TO THE LOCATION AND EXTENDED LOGISTICS FILMMAKERS and the crew worked in very challenging
production and logistics conditions, in direct contact with nature. The shooting took place in variable weather conditions, and some part was made on beaches with a variety of substrates - from rocky to sandy; the crew had to use adequate equipment, e.g. to pull the designed boat on the sand.
PRODUCTION DESIGN
CAST - A brand new family settlement was designed and built for the purpose of film production, and the design meticulously
reproduces the universe of the characters who have been living in this place for 10 years. The production design took care of the DETAILS of props and the makeups of individuals who live in harmony with nature and struggle with its challenges.
MUSIC
DIVERSE INSTRUMENT POOL AND ATAVISTIC VOCALS - A team of almost 60 PEOPLE from around the world were
involved in soundtrack creation. It includes instrumental recordings of two-meter gongs, crystal harps, vocals by Roma Gasiorowska, and of singers from Zywiolak and Mehehe bands. Lukasz Sabat did sound production on woodwinds, and over 30 people from the Sofia Session Orchestra took part in the recording sessions.
ENVIRONMENT
FULLY ALIGNED WITH THE IDEA OF GREEN FILMING - One of the priority goals of the production team was to make A NATURE FRIENDLY film. Through their efforts on the set, filmmakers wished to have a positive impact on nature / the surroundings (e.g. by populating new hives with bees). Moreover, the team cooperated with offices in charge of protected areas, and complied with all guidelines and standards in order minimize the risk of the production's interference with nature. Consultations with animal handlers were also held, and as a result, recommendations on the animal welfare and environment conservation were put in place in the process. The number of outdoor lighting equipment was limited, and when filming outdoors the production relied on natural conditions. Because reusable utensils and flasks were used on the set the volume of waste was significantly reduced. Additionally, efforts were made to ensure that recyclable materials end up in properly marked containers.
"TRASHDESIGN" - COSTUMES for the film were eco-designed from used materials and second-hand clothes. The wigs were also
executed in an environmentally friendly way from recycled textiles.
