Storyline

When a plane wreckage is discovered. They find out that it went down during World War II and that it was piloted by a woman who's a member of the Women Airforce Service Pilots or WASP. When they learn that the plane was tampered with they suspect that someone wanted to get rid of her. So they talk to survivors and learn that they had to endure a lot of hardship from the male pilots who trained them who didn't believe they should be flying.

Aviators!

As WWII is being fought in two fronts, the US Army decides to accept and train women pilots to help in the war effort. Vivian Lynn is seen steering her plane into the base. She is late in reporting, something that will not be tolerated. Vivian is told to toe the line, or else, by the stern woman in charge, Iris Keening.

Vivian finds out that life at the base is not exactly what she thought it would be. Being outspoken and bold, didn't make her popular with the men, but she saw right through Wolf, the man that feels threatened because of her intelligence. To make matters worse, Wolf's brother, Frank, falls in love with her.

Many years later, the remains of a plane wreck is brought over to the attention of the Cold Case team. They identify Vivian Lynn among the pieces in whatever is left of the wreckage. They go back to the material that they uncover to begin their investigation. One thing is clear, Vivian's death is suspicious because of what comes out in the many interviews with the people that are still alive.

The team begins suspecting foul play was involved in Vivian's accident. There are two women still alive who were with Vivian during those years, and Iris Keening, the officer in charge is interviewed. Frank and Wolf appear to be holding the truth about the incident. It turns out to be a surprise when Lilly gets to the bottom of the mystery.

Michael Learned has a small, but pivotal role in the episode. Same could be said about Deanna Dunagan and Mary Jo Catlett, all from the war years.
