Nice idea but no possibility for investment means it is just that – a nice idea

This 45 second film is shorter than its own credits and the simple idea is that a man's life flashes before his eyes. First experiences, love, family, bad times, good times but ultimately, death. This plays out in a series of very quick images all of which tell the story of what life is made up of and as such it is a nice idea. In terms of the production it is well put together; it looks very good, the editing is nice, the POV shooting is OK and generally it delivers and gets done. The problem is that the method of delivery is also its biggest weakness.

I watched this because it was recommended to me and I had read others on the same online discussion saying how moved they were by it, but for me I have to say that it left me cold and never became more than a nice idea. The problem is that we jump right into the flash and it is over before anything can be done with it. The images are just images and because we have no link to the person having it, we see them only as a depiction of a generic life-flash – if you wrote a list now of what you expect to see then watched the film, I think you would probably get 90% of your guesses right, because it isn't anything amazingly fresh or different. It is still a nice idea and for 45 seconds it is just that, but it says something that, even though you will watch it twice, you will spend longer watching it than the film stays with you.

Those looking for this nice idea done excellently, should watch the short film Bullet in the Brain; that short has the same idea but draws the viewer in and also produces "moments" which are clever, informative and moving. Perhaps if I had not seen it done so well there, I would have been more impressed by this, but for this Last Day Dream is just a nice idea delivered very well technically, but with nothing more than that.
