In the Indian Ocean off the coast of Tanzania, a shrimping boat catches the body, mostly skeletal, of a Marine, SSgt. Daniel Cryer, who deserted in Kandahar six months before; he was last seen while boarding Damocles, the Jordanian freighter, supposedly lost at sea in a storm, which Ziva also rode en route to Somalia. Vance suspends Ziva's application while he questions her. Abby provides the position of the missing ship; a salvage crew finds the wreckage plus 18 more bodies, apparently executed before the sinking; all 18 wind up in Ducky's workshop. A Mossad officer, Malachi Ben-Gidon, shows up to "rescue" Ziva from the NCIS; he offers to tell Vance what happened aboard the ship. Mal says that Ziva shot Cryer; Ziva says that Mal did so; Abby and the evidence also say that Mal did so. Gibbs throws out Mal; as Gibbs asks, Ziva tells the rest of the story. Vance deals with a phone call, then Gibbs gives Ziva a paper, calls her a name, and tells her to get to work. Written by DocRushing

Did You Know?

When Gibbs stood up and walked towards Ziva, he leans in and whispered something to her ear, it seems like he's saying, "You're my, daughter" in reference to Ziva referring to Gibbs as the closest thing to a father that she has. See more »

In Malachi Ben-Gidon's recount of events, shown in flashback form, Ziva states "Too far at sea for radio to land". Apparently Ziva does not know about HF radio which can provide global coverage. Of course, it is possible the Damocles doesn't have HF transmit capabilities, but Ziva probably hasn't had the run of the entire ship, given the lack of trust between crew and passengers, and would not know for certain. She may have noticed a lack of antenna, but it would be fairly unlikely that the ship doesn't even have an HF receiver (for weather warnings, etc.), which would require an antenna. See more »

A marine is pulled out of the ocean decomposed in a body bag. This marine was aboard the Damocles, the ship Ziva was on whose crew went missing. At the same time Ziva applies to be an agent and is denied because she has information about the case that she is withholding. Ziva has trouble telling the story of what happened before the crew was executed. Gibbs and Vance decide to play Good cop, bad cop to get her to tell them what happened on the ship.

I really enjoyed this episode because of its originality. It tells a compelling story about Ziva's mossad mission to kill Saleem. The head of the Kidon, officer Ben Guidon is Ziva's commander and he says that her family has always been there for her unlike NCIS. She then looks at a picture of her and her brother on the wall not knowing who she should trust. Later on, Ben Guidon kills the marine and Ziva has trouble accepting this because he's something like family. All these moments really show her emotional state. Finally Gibbs comes in to play bad cop after he finds out the bullet in Cryer was fired by Ben Guidon. He chases him out of there and Ziva tells him that apologies are a sign of weakness, a sign of loyalty to Gibbs' team. Ziva then ends the story by saying that she abandoned her commander to go after Saleem alone. She didn't trust him. Sure enough it was her team that rescued her and not the mossad.

I enjoyed the setting of this episode. It was set on a shifty boat full of mercenaries Ziva couldn't trust. Her eternal dilemma is ended by something Gibbs says. I hope we'll get to know what he said. This episode had a lot of character development for Ziva and now she's back. This season is starting out very well, it will probably be one of my favourites.
