After researching how pearls are created by oysters, Kokichi Mikimoto and a partner decide to buy a small island with a protected bay to raise oysters that they manually implant a grain of sand in so they can mass produce pearls. After many trials and tribulations, they finally succeed in creating the world's first cultured pearls. Mikimoto's aim is to put his pearls on the neck of every woman. Word gets out about his achievements and buyers come from all over. Mikimoto pearl shops are now found in many countries, and Mikimoto Island has become a tourist destination.
