Somehow, I survived 16 years of my life before I even realized this practice of abortion existed. Chalk it up to a sheltered childhood. When I did learn of abortion I was aghast. I simply could not believe humanity allowed this.
What this film offers is not just the historical record regarding abortion but the racial roots of the policy. When I watched it for the first time this was unknown to me. I have a distant cousin who is a bulwark of the Underground Railroad named Levi Coffin. He is my favorite relative because the issue is so dear to me. What you learn through this film is that while the sell has changed from abortion advocates the policy never has. In fact, abortion amounts to a sacrosanct rite of passage for adherents of the progressive left in much of the same way that gun ownership amounts to those on the right.
What really stuck me about this documentary is that it is entirely sourced and annotated even within the body of the film. There is exposition but it isn't as if the film amounts to two hours of pro- life advocates waxing poetic about the evils of abortion. Instead, you are taken on a journey of seldom told American history with specifically referenced and relevant sources within each chapter.
I won't ruin it for you but abortion like so many other progressive policies (minimum wage and gun rights comes to mind) stem from Reconstruction. One would think that the Democratic Party would have long abandoned these policies with apology but as much is not the case. It has merely been repackaged.
From watching this film I often start conversations with a stat learned within this program. "If arbitrarily is was decided that 80% of all police would be ordered to patrol black and minority neighborhoods, do you think that civil rights advocates would be incensed that they are being targeted for incarceration? What should be noted then that 80% of all Planned Parenthood facilities remain fixed in black and minority neighborhoods?"
I recommend that you stop what you are doing and watch this film right now. It can be bought from the producers or for a first viewing it is available in it's entirety on YouTube. If you are willing to question what you know and to follow your own research trail while verifying, your mind is about to be blown and you might just find yourself next to me lobbying against this racist, barbaric practice and policy of Maafa in the 21st century.
I am grateful to you for reading.
