Did You Know?
Archived newspapers report that this show is Garry's best of the year, due mainly to the presence of Red Skelton. The clowning of Skelton is always an assurance of fun, especially when he takes a break from his own familiar surroundings and performs with a group as easygoing and natural as the Garry Moore gang. Red appears in a wild skit as Clem Kadiddlehopper, who innocently delivers Chinese food to the office of the head of a record company (Garry Moore) just as Conway Twerp (Durward Kirby) walks out on his contract. Carol Burnett appears as the seductive young lady who tries to lure Clem into signing a singing contract. Burnett makes the most of it while she has Red. Steve Lawrence sings "If Ever I Would Leave You" and comedian Bob Melvin comes out with an assortment of humorous tales. In another funny moment, Miss Burnett plays a woman president with a couple of wild angles for reporter Moore. The hobble skirt and Admiral Perry's reaching the North Pole heralds "That Wonderful Year - 1909." Lively and happy-go-lucky show. See more
